DOCTOR STRANGE IN THE MULTIVERSE OF MADNESS Star Elizabeth Olsen Responds To SCARLET WITCH Movie Rumors

With rumours swirling that we're getting a Scarlet Witch show or movie, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness star Elizabeth Olsen has weighed in with what, if anything, she knows about the project.

By JoshWilding - Jun 29, 2022 06:06 AM EST

WandaVision put the spotlight on Wanda Maximoff, revealing her as the MCU's Scarlet Witch while exploring the hero's grief following The Vision's death in Avengers: Infinity War

Of course, Wanda would face another blow when the fantasy world she'd created in Westview fell apart and left her with no other choice than to lose The Vision again...along with her children, Tommy and Billy. This pushed the Scarlet Witch down a villainous route in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, leading to her murdering The Illuminati and countless others in Kamar-Taj.

A lot of fans were upset with the Avenger being taken down this path, and the fact that she seemingly sacrificed herself to destroy every copy of the Darkhold across the Multiverse did little to help matters. We saw a flash of red light before the castle collapsed, however, likely meaning Wanda teleported herself to safety and is still alive.

Over the past few weeks, there have been rumblings of a solo outing for the Scarlet Witch. Some believe it will be a Disney+ series, while others are convinced it's heading down the movie route. It's also possible she'll return in Agatha: House of Harkness

Asked about these reports in the video below, Elizabeth Olsen responded, "I would love to be a part of both of those. No one tells me anything, and I'm not even hiding a secret because I'm bad at that. I know nothing about my future."

We're optimistic that the Scarlet Witch's story will continue in some form, though when and where that might be is as big a mystery to us as it appears to be for Olsen.

In Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, the Marvel Cinematic Universe unlocks the Multiverse and pushes its boundaries further than ever before. We'll journey into the unknown with Doctor Strange, who, with the help of mystical allies both old and new, traverses the mind-bending and dangerous alternate realities of the Multiverse to confront a mysterious new adversary.

The movie's cast includes Benedict Cumberbatch, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Elizabeth Olsen, Benedict Wong, Xochitl Gomez, Michael Stühlbarg, and Rachel McAdams. The film is directed by Sam Raimi, and Kevin Feige is the producer. Louis D’Esposito, Victoria Alonso, Eric Hauserman Carroll and Jamie Christopher serve as executive producers. The screenplay was written by Loki Head Writer Michael Waldron.

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is now playing in theaters. It's now available on Digital platforms and Disney+, and hits Blu-ray, 4k Ultra HD, and DVD on July 26.

The more Wanda the better, best female character in the MCU (and most attractive as well).

After a tv show where she heroically decided to stop imprisoning and torturing a town, then a movie where she murdered just… so many people, maybe they should try and redeem her before giving her her own film

Hey Marvel give her a movie now. She’s just too good in the role. We need more.

Don't think she needs a movie just yet. We already have a solid Scarlet Witch saga in WandaVision and Multiverse of Madness. Do wanna see her return elsewhere though

She got a really well made and innovative D=Show. Yea, I want to see her redeemed but not her own movie.

@Goldboink - I kinda wanna see her as a villain in Midnight Sons initially before joining them halfway through to defeat either Chthon or Mephisto.

It's probably gonna be a movie like Thunderbolts, but I rather see a show so it can take more time with it.

Not sure I need a movie for Wanda, now that she's officially a mass murdering villain.

@Kyos - How many people did she murder at Kamar Taj? What’s the exact number? We know she killed the Illuminati members, fair.

Clint as Hawkeye murdered countless people in the span of 5 years because his family was taken from him too. And he got a 6 episode series.

So.

Kyos - 6/29/2022, 8:27 AM
@kg8817 - Obviously I can't give you an exact number, but, like, a lot?

Clint going on his global Punisher Tour out of grief and frustration was problematic af, I'll give you that.

Still I feel that Wanda's multiversal killing spree, where she pretty much indiscriminately murdered everyone who stood in the way of her murdering a child for selfish reasons, was worse.

I love me some more Scarlet Witch in my movies, especially after MoM. And more of Elizabeth Olsen is never a bad thing. But keep her at a distance for now and bring her back when the story needs her most.

Scarlet Witch has long been one of my favourite characters in comics and I love Elizabeth Olsen's interpretation, the problem is that Wanda is damaged goods and not been handled well since she was kicking Thanos' ass in Endgame.

As someone said, she tortured thousands of people for weeks, was given a pass and actually sympathy from Monica (terrible line) then given another pass by Strange at the beginning of MoM. Then she went on to murder multiple people and risk billions of lives in the multiverse.

Sure, she was corrupted by the Darkhold in MoM but had already started looking for her "kids" before that.

There are ways to try and redeem a character but its gonna take some work and I don't believe the current crop of writers have the chops

All of the characters in Strange 2, i am excited to see again. Stephen, Wanda, America, Wong all of them. Watching it again at home i really enjoyed America Chavez

I love Elizabeth Olsen and she's been consistently great as Wanda, but I'm not sure I like the direction her character has taken after WandaVision. It'll take a lot of good writing and time to redeem her from all the things she pulled in Multiverse of Madness.

It's weird that this movie was almost exactly what I wanted but they just switched some character roles. I thought the plot should have been Mordo hunting Wanda down for Westview with Doctor Strange and Wong protecting her, in a multiverse-hopping adventure.

She mentions the James Robinson run as something she likes and would want to inspire Wanda’s journey. This is exactly what I have been wanting to see from Wanda next

Olsen is a treasure

I really enjoyed MoM, but I have to be honest when I say I kind of wish they didn't turn Wanda evil. It makes sense with the direction her character was going of course, but with all the hardship she's faced throughout the film's I kind of hoped she'd come out on top. I guess there's still time for that to happen though if they do decide to bring her back. Not sure how you redeem a character that took out all the good souls attempting to protect Kamar-Taj though...

@RedFury - Blame Mephisto.

Everyone saying she’s now irredeemable or needs to be, or didn’t like that she took that route, implying she’s unlikable or a villain now, but where were those people saying the same for Loki or Thanos ? Or even Hawkeye like someone said here.

Loki killed thousands and many people defended Thanos when he did the same (even if he is a great character and antagonist, his view was still flawed and was quite actually mad).
RedFury
RedFury - 6/29/2022, 8:43 AM
@MisterDoctor217 - That's a good point. But I guess when we see a Villain change sides it's a sort of relief that they're trying to right their wrongs. But when it's the other way around we have a hard time feeling sympathy for someone who was once good, but turned vile. They were the one protecting and saving lives, and to turn your back on that kind of makes you more evil than the person who started out as a villain.

I think Clint's progression is very different though. He turned into a vigilante through his loss, and from what I gather he was only killing bad guys. So he went the anti-hero route and that's far more redeemable than killing good people like Wanda was.

I think the way MoM ends we see Wanda attempting to redeem herself by taking out the Dark Hold and herself in the process. But I feel as if that still isn't enough to fully redeem the terrible things she did. She sort of just leveled the playing field.

@MisterDoctor217 - Hmmmmm good question. I wonder what it that Hawkeye, Loki, and Thanos all have in common that Wanda doesn't??
VictorAlonzo
VictorAlonzo - 6/29/2022, 8:25 AM
Seriously, wouldn't it be cool if Wanda is breaking due to a mutant related catastrophe?

What if Professor Xavier has been successfully keeping mutants secret from humanity, and an evil entity, such as the Shadow King, Legion, Sinister, or someone else is trying to escape Professor's evasion by way of manipulating the Scarlet Witch.

What if this was another plan from one of the old foes? Red Skulls revenge? Another Witch, who played in the wrong books? Mother of a man named Victor?
GhostDog
GhostDog - 6/29/2022, 8:53 AM
@VictorAlonzo - Not gonna lie, the first idea with the Professor and escape sounds really interesting as a concept. I think it would need to be ironed out of course but this as a broad idea is intriguing.

Scarlet Witch is one of the best characters in the MCU. She is certainly the most complex with her shifting between hero and villain regularly. Love to see more of her.

Not a movie but a Disney+ series. Have her awaken in Hell after the events of Doctor Strange 2 and have Chthon as the main antagonist who struck a deal with Mephisto to be allowed entry into Hell to torture and punish the Scarlet Witch because she destroyed every Darkhold which was his doorway into each universe. Have Zarathos act as a guide and an ally and have it set up Ghost Rider.
