DOCTOR STRANGE IN THE MULTIVERSE OF MADNESS Star Elizabeth Olsen Talks Movie's Ending & Scarlet Witch's Future

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness star Elizabeth Olsen has addressed the movie's ending and shared her take on the Scarlet Witch's future. Needless to say, MAJOR SPOILERS for the sequel follow!

At the end of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, the Scarlet Witch appears to see the error of her ways and destroys every copy of the Darkhold across reality before seemingly burying herself alive. However, as the rubble falls, we do see a brief flash of red energy, a sign that Wanda Maximoff teleported out of there to hopefully fight another day and once again be a hero.

During a recent interview with Access Hollywood, Elizabeth Olsen was quick to point out that she thinks there's still more to do with this character. "She can never go away, I don't think," the actress teased. "Especially with the Multiverse. But I don't know. I think she's aware of what she's done, but no – I don't think she's gone."

Elaborating on that point while chatting to Hollywood Life, Olsen said she's "satisfied" with how the Scarlet Witch's story arc ends in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, and again expressed enthusiasm about returning as the fallen Avenger. "I think somehow it needed to end where it ends at some point, and I’m curious about where we go from there."

"My goal is to always have her have some sort of evolution, and the evolution in this for me was really empowering," she continued, defending Wanda's divisive actions. "She has a new kind of confidence that we haven’t seen in 8 years, and she’s really not apologizing for anything. She feels very clear in her beliefs. I find it very admirable, and I enjoyed throwing her into this journey of madness. I think it’s okay to play characters that people get frustrated with sometimes."

While there has been some backlash to how the Scarlet Witch's arc plays out in the Doctor Strange sequel, many fans seem to have forgotten that the character's comic book counterpart headed down a similarly villainous route before finding redemption. Wanda laid waste to The Avengers, killing a number of heroes, before wiping out almost all the Marvel Universe's mutants.

However, she found her way back to being a hero and we're sure this Scarlet Witch can too after letting loose and going on a rampage in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness!

@DoubleD - Exactly. If she doesn’t do it herself then Vision will dig her out at some point.

Awww. Poor Wanda. How ever will she get over the fact that she killed her own kids, then proceeded try to steal anothers, and kill many innocent people in brutal ways. Poor girlboss, such a evolution.

I'm not really dissatisfied with the character, but moreso how quick her arc played out. Spread over Endgame, WandaVision and Multiverse of Madness, I think it's a relatively short arc for what the MCU could allow nowadays.

Anyway, I hope we get to see her next in a Mutants movie. Just like with Norman and Ock and now Xavier, I do wanna see how characters native to the MCU (Spider-Man and Scarlet Witch) interact with the MCU native versions of those variants.

@bkmeijer1 - Her arc started in AoU

@TheHumanSpider2 - true, but that wasn't really her arc of going bad over the loss of Vision and the kids and just go all out villain.

I guess you could argue that her falling in love with Vision is part of the same arc, but this feels more like uniting with her kids more than it involves Vision.

@bkmeijer1 - People seem to forget what is the first thing she does in AoU...she BREAKS Thor (who has an existencial crisis and goes to hide in a cave), Tony (who gets so scared that it influences the decisions he takes in Civil War), and Steve (who realises he will never have a chance at living a normal life).
Heck, she makes Banner go crazy, and also Nat...with the exception of Clint, she takes down the whole team!

Definitely one of the most interesting characters in the MCU. Really excited to see what they do with her next.

I can see an opening sequence of her being retrieved by vision( or less likely magneto ) and going through redemption.... She was corrupted by an evil book after all. A decent excuse
