Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness doesn't open in North America until Friday, but the latest MCU adventure has already rolled out overseas, and is off to a very respectable start at the international box office.

Reports are coming in that Sam Raimi's mind-bending sequel conjured-up $27.2 million on opening day in 20 markets, including France, Germany, Italy, Japan and Korea. It obviously remains to be seen how the movie performs domestically, but ticket sales are pacing only 4% behind Spider-Man: No Way Home, which is a very good sign.

The film is currently expected to earn between $160 million and $180 million over the weekend.

It's now been confirmed that In The Multiverse of Madness will not be granted a release in Saudi Arabia or China, and while this will undoubtedly impact its global total, it didn't hurt No Way Home in the long run!

The response from critics has been mostly positive (you can check out our verdict here), although the movie certainly has its share of detractors. It currently sits at 79% on Rotten Tomatoes.

I got a feeling it won't reach 1 Billion

Hope I'm wrong

But after The Batman which was everybodys most anticipated CBM of the year and had China
and it barely made 770 Million

@WakandaTech - everybody's? Nah. Also the batman was 3 hours and even with how good it was it was a slog to get through. it's a difference

@WakandaTech - Everybody? Not me. And judging by the BO estimates, The Batman was never more anticipated than Doctor Strange. I can clearly see every single MCU movie this year making more money than The Batman, people just keep underestimating the MCU.

@WakandaTech - The Batman is about 50% longer than Doctor Strange 2, so it had less screenings per day than this will

This may have a bigger opening than Batman

Batman isn't that big in China, which is why that movie didn't make that much there ($23.9M total), so Doctor Strange not being released there isn't that much of a disadvantage compared to Batman

@WakandaTech -
I feel the movie has used a bait and switch tactic to lure in a lot of people who won't know what they are going in for. Repeat viewings will likely be very low, it'll get a high box office start but word of mouth is going to be divisive heavily. I'd lean towards $800m max depending on how strong the opening week or so is.

@WakandaTech - I think it will fall short of a billion, probably a bit above $900M.

About The Batman, it wasnt that much anticipated, and while it premiered in China, it bombed there, because they went back to lockdown the weekend it released.

@WakandaTech - There’s also the factor of reviews, which people do go by regardless. And it isn’t hitting the usual mark for Marvel films. Seeing it tonight, curious to see how it’ll go.

@Spidey91 - yup. But I don't understand how they calculate this before the day's half done. Is this calculated by pre bookings? Do they revise the numbers again?

have no doubt the movie will do good, in my country people are going crazy for it, my local Cinemark learned from their mistakes opening pre -sales 15 days prior to NWH release, now they do it a month a prior ( like it usually happens in the US as i understand), and just yesterday they released an statement saying they are opening more spots at 2am for MOM, cause there still a lot of people who weren't able to get their tickets (and want to) and there's a lot of hype and anticipation for it lol they did the same with The Batman but they didn't have to open more spots for that one, yet still the screenings were full.

Me and my cousins were lucky to get tickets for today and we taking the whole family with us this time around, we all have a soft spot for The Doctor xD, so just a few more hours left for me.

like seriously today feels like the longest shift ever at work lmao
