DOCTOR STRANGE IN THE MULTIVERSE OF MADNESS Will Actually Have A Shorter Runtime Than Initially Reported

Despite reports that Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness would clock in at around two and a half hours, it appears the Marvel Studios sequel will actually be a little shorter than expected...

We learned yesterday that tickets for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness will go on sale this Wednesday, and we're anticipating Marvel Studios pulling out all the stops over the next few weeks to build hype for the sequel. In the meantime, an official runtime has been revealed by Fandango, and Sam Raimi's movie looks set to be a little shorter than we initially expected.

While there had been rumours of a runtime that clocked in at around 150 minutes, we've now learned that the Doctor Strange follow-up is actually going to be 2 hours and 6 minutes.

That means the epic Multiversal blockbuster matches Iron Man, and sits right between Iron Man 2 (2 hours and 4 minutes) and Spider-Man: Far From Home (2 hours, 9 minutes). This might disappoint some fans who wanted a more substantial run-time for all those rumoured cameos, but it's only these past few years we've seen Marvel Studios head down that 2 hours and 30 minutes route.

Eternals came under fire for being overlong, so it's possible the studio has taken note of the complaints.

In Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, the Marvel Cinematic Universe unlocks the Multiverse and pushes its boundaries further than ever before. We'll journey into the unknown with Doctor Strange, who, with the help of mystical allies both old and new, traverses the mind-bending and dangerous alternate realities of the Multiverse to confront a mysterious new adversary.

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is set to be released on May 6.

@dragon316 - Revenant didn’t make over a billion, and it’s obvious you have poor taste in films anyway.

I don't mind the occasional epic but after Zack's Justice League, Eternals, Spider-Man and The Batman, I don't want all movies to be 2.5+ hours

Yeah I prefer it shorter. Movies like The Batman felt way too long for me.

@TheManWithoutFear - that’s true as Batman fan what you say is true there are some scenes could have been taken out make little shorter

@TheManWithoutFear - The Batman didnt felt that long to me, but Endgame and Aquaman were agonizing.
Probably because those movies had a lot of fat that could've been removed (same with Justice League, but that came out on a streaming service), while The Batman...aside from that terrible Arkham scene, I cant think of any other thing that could've been removed.

@TheManWithoutFear - the Batman was an amazing experience. However, I really hope some fan does an edit of it to cut down some of the Selina stuff.

Let's be clear. Eternals didn't get bashed for being too long. One would argue that it's length was more than enough time to get the story set. It was basically all dialogue with little action. But when the action was there it was excellent. But the film spent way too much time trying setting up the team members to meet up again.

@SonOfAGif - that had nothing do with it the revanent is all talk one action scene which made billion at box office won awards that movie was worse than eternals

@dragon316 - The Revenant isn't a comic book movie set within the biggest comic book movie universe of all time. The Revenant made $532,950,503 and not a billion as you claim. And you claim it was worse than The Eternals and you are entitled to your opinion. I loved The Eternals and loved The Revenant which are two completely different films. That's like putting The Departed against Batman v. Superman.

@SonOfAGif - Eternals wasn't "too long" - it was longer than needed for the story and how it was told. It felt unedited.

That sounds like a Sam Raimi runtime, alright...
This is the exact same runtime Spiderman 2 had, and most Sam Raimi films are around 90 minutes long, Evil Dead 2, one of the best movies ever made, is 80 minutes long.
Sam Raimi's pacing is insane, no filler, no dead time, no pauses for audiences to clap when they get a reference, or laugh when a joke is made, every single second of the movie is used to tell a story, and every frame is used to show a story.

Could it be? Could Disney had let Sam direct and edit his actual movie? sounds imposible, but this runtime...
While I think there wont be a middle ground with this movie (either a Sam Raimi focused 2 hours movie, or a Disney 2 hours cameo parade), after hearing these news, I'm a lot more excited for this movie, the trailer looked like a Sam Raimi film, and this is a Sam Raimi runtime.

Something like this I feel should have a longer runtime, but we'll see...

It's the 11th shortest film out of 28 MCU films. Disappointed because this film seems to be so much more important in setting up the MCU's future. I suppose my main fear is this film will feel rushed. But I think the 2nd round of reshoots (or 3rd, I can't keep track) streamlined the film. There were probably some whole subplots & characters eliminated in the process. In a recent TV spot, the studio edited out the Christine Palmer variant out of a previous TV spot. I'm thinking Marvel took out a lot of 'fat' in order to get to the core of the film but I'm afraid that could backfire if they took out too much. I hope this film makes sense by the end of it and its satisfying after waiting so long to see it.

If that means its gonna have a more streamlined story and less big filler with big cameos, then I'm all for it. As long as it services Strange's arc, it isn't a bad thing

Having read the reddit leak, 2 hours and 6 minutes including credits and two aftercredit scenes (one of them supposedly X-Men related) feel way too short.
2 hours and 28 minutes with most of the filmed scenes feel much more apropriate.

As long as it fits what Raimi wants the film to be I'm good with it. Happy we're clocking in under 2h 30min to be honest.
