Scott Derrickson Expected To Return To Direct DOCTOR STRANGE 2 Once He's Done With A New LOCKE & KEY Adap

It sounds like Scott Derrickson has been confirmed to return to helm the sequel to Marvel's mega-successful Doctor Strange, once he's done adapting Joe Hill's Lock & Key comic series for Hulu.

As you're no doubt aware, a defunct pilot for Joe Hill's cult favorite IDW comic series, Lock & Key, already exists, but Deadline reports that Doctor Strange direcor Scott Derrickson is going to take another crack at the material.

The horror/drama tale is being adapted as a one-hour pilot for Hulu, with Carlton Cuse (Lost, Bates Motel, The Strain) on board as Showrunner. If the series is picked up, Derrickson is expected to stay on to helm multiple episodes.

Though we all pretty much expected he'd return after steering the first film to such massive success, the report also seems to confirm that Derrickson will indeed be back behind the camera for Marvel's Doctor Strange sequel once he's done with Lock & Key.

Tell us, are you excited at the prospect of a fresh take on Joe Hill's Locke & Key? Sound off below.

Great news. Big fan of his, and he killed it with Dr. Strange. Can't wait to see where he goes next, and hope he finishes off the trilogy like Gunn, have him be the mystical side lead of the MCU! He knows his shit.

He can leave whenever he wants to, provided he asks me for permission first (he has to wear a Halloween mask and can't talk to people).

@soberchimera - I'd prefer Harry Lloyd, who would have also made a cool Loki.

I think Derrickson can take the sequel in interesting direction if Nightmare will be the villain. Good news.

He can take his time to get that right before he returns to Doctor Strange. He might even learn a couple of things from Lock & Key which he could bring to the sequel.

@NinnesMBC - im actually surprised there isnt more talk about the fact h e is working on locke and key. I am not sure if you read it or are familiar but it is incredible. And some of the effects and stuff dont in dr strange can definitely transfer over to the locke and key stuff. And also true that workin on the locke and key might even be beneficial to him and dr strange 2

I like how Marvel is starting to hold on to their directors for their respective sequels (Scott Derrickson, James Gunn, Russo Brothers, Peyton Reed).

@MrMurdock - to be fair they did that before as well (Favreau, Whedon), albeit not to the same extent as now.

I agree though, I think the franchises will be better with a single vision guiding each trilogy
