While it's likely we'll see Doctor Strange's next full appearance in Avengers: Infinity War, the possibilities are endless when it comes to the future of Marvel's Sorcerer Supreme after his first film releases on November 4th.

Director Scott Derrickson confirmed to Den of Geek that he's been thinking about ideas for a sequel, given his love for the character and the source material. "I love the character, I love the visual possibilities, and I know the comics so well - [the first movie is] the tip of an iceberg. There's so much progress that can be made."

Derrickson elaborated that he'd like to dig into a future villain akin to how Christopher Nolan handled the Joker and Two-Face in The Dark Knight, being able to explore that territory with the hero's origin out of the way. "What made The Dark Knight so great was that the origin story of Batman had been well-told, and then it was time to bring in a villain where you really got to go deep. And not just the Joker, also Two-Face. It was a more visceral experience, I’d love to be able to do that for Doctor Strange."

In the meantime, Stephen Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) will have to contend with Kaecilius (Mads Mikkelson) in the first installment of what could be a magical franchise. What villain or stories would you like to see adapted in a future Doctor Strange film? Let us know in the comments.

From Marvel comes DOCTOR STRANGE, the story of world-famous neurosurgeon Dr. Stephen Strange whose life changes forever after a horrific car accident robs him of the use of his hands. When traditional medicine fails him, he is forced to look for healing, and hope, in an unlikely place – a mysterious enclave known as Kamar-Taj. He quickly learns that this is not just a center for healing but also the front line of a battle against unseen dark forces bent on destroying our reality. Before long Strange – armed with newly acquired magical powers – is forced to choose whether to return to his life of fortune and status or leave it all behind to defend the world as the most powerful sorcerer in existence. Join Strange on his dangerous, mystifying, and totally mind-bending journey.

All the reviews suggest it's a very solid origin story, and if Derrickson is keen to one-up-himself with a bigger canvas to paint on, then it sounds good to me. Let's see what the fellow can do.

At this point, Marvel can make a Radioactive Man origin movie and it'd be a hit.

@DoubleD - Finally got it's rotten cherry popped, I see!

The visuals are worth the price of admission, but this is as generic and by-the-numbers an origin story as the MCU has ever made. It's better than 'Green Lantern,' but it will remind you of 'Green Lantern'.

Even so, not too shabby when the worst review still says it's worth seeing and says it's better than a movie that (while not particularly good) wasn't exactly the worst thing in the world.

Actually, the one negative review is Scott Mendelson, which is someone I don't generally dismiss out of hand. Though, he rated it 5.5 out of 10, but gave Civil War a 6, so maybe he's just not keen on the MCU at the moment.
