Johnny Depp to play Dr. Strange? The much sought after Depp has been rumored to be play everyone from DC's THE RIDDLER in the follow up to THE DARK KNIGHT to Marvel Comics MORBIUS The Living Vampire in the continuing BLADE saga. According to SpoonFED.com unnamed sources at NEW LINE CINEMA have Depp in mind as "the guy we want" to play one of the most powerful sorcerers in the MARVEL universe. Between his big box office draws in Tim Burton films and part time pirating, only time will tell if he's got enough magic left for this mystical role.

He is a good choice for the role and hopefully the will officially announce the director of this (please Del Toro) at SDCC

Why would New Line Cinema be reporting this? Marvel Studios is making this, not New Line. right? am i wrong?

This doesn't seem like it makes much sense, knowing that.

Great choice.

Hopefully Tim Burton doesn't direct. Love his films, but he's really wrong for this one...

What CDB said. This makes no sense. That and no thanks to him playing Strange. I'm really getting sick of Depp. Yes he's a great actor, but he's been cast in about every CBM role out there.

CDB, I was wondering where you've been!? That is an excellent question. What's the delioh with that?

@Ecks - good point. But he would bring some instant cred to the movie. He wouldn't be my 1st (or 3rd) choice, but I think he could do it.

@McLovin-Yeah, there are definitely worse actors out there, but I'd like to see someone else.

Not to mention...isn't Dr. Strange on there list of films that will be smaller, low-budget films? That would mean Depp would be doing this for gits and shiggles, not a paycheck. I bet they go unknown/lesser known for the role.

I really Hope that this is a rumor. I mean Depp is a Great Actor, I just don't him in this one. I've said before (and been Btched at) That I think Edward Norton is PERFECT for this Role. And now that he's out of Hulk, he could do it. I know, I know, it would cause some confusion, with the same actor playing two roles in the Marvel Movie Universe. If not Norton, I'd like to see Jim Caviezel do it.

@ josh

it would cause confusion. look at all the people that got mad about Chris Evans playing Human Torch and Cap, and those characters aren't even in the same movie world.

can you imagine what it would be like if the same actor played two characters in the same movie world? totally stupid.

no offense, because i think Norton could do it, but it would never happen. and i think its safe to say that Norton will never appear in another Marvel Studios movie ever again, he's too difficult to work with.

@CDB what about Ryan Reynolds? He plays GL, Deadpool, going to be in R.I.P.D.
CorndogBurglar

@ neo

no offense, but re-read my comment, man, i think you missed my point altogether. lol

I said it would cause confusion for the same actor to play two separate characters...IN THE SAME MOVIE WORLD.

Yes, Ryan Reynolds is playing all those characters, but those movies are not taking place in the same movie world. meaning, there's no chance of Deadpool running into GL. they are not part of the same universe.

my point is, even that is confusing to non-comic readers and the general audience, so could you imagine if you had Norton, who USED TO play Hulk, all of a sudden show up in an Avengers movie, only now he's playing Doc Strange? it would confuse the hell out of people, lol.

I say let him go for it! He plays the eccentric incredibly! RDJ would be great too, but he's very much Tony Stark. He did a fabulous Sherlock Holmes too!

Oh God. Please. NO. Johnny Depp is a fantastic actor, but it's annoying how he's a choice for everything. And I don't exactly picture Dr. Strange with a suave, ladies man kind of voice. I've seen other choices and I like them better. Patrick Dempsey, Liam Neeson, Clive Owen.
