Mads Mikkelsen Says He's "Waiting On Marvel's Call" For DOCTOR STRANGE Role

For the first time since it was reported that was he was being courted, Hannibal star Mads Mikkelsen has discussed the possibility of starring opposite Benedict Cumberbatch in the Doctor Strange movie and ultimately joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Check it out!

Exactly one month after it was first reported that Mads Mikklesen was in early talks to play one of the villains in Doctor Strange, the Hannibal star took part in an extensive MTime interview during which he addressed the possibility of joining the 2016 Scott Derickson-directed Marvel adaptation.

"I know as much as the rest of the world," said Mikklesen of his Doctor Strange casting. "So far it's been rumors, so I'm waiting on a phone call." However, should he get that call from Marvel Studios to join the stellar cast, the Danish actor admitted he would be "Over the moon." He added, "It would be fantastic to be a part of the Marvel family. I mean, it's something we all grew up with. We all have our heroes, and Doctor Strange is definitely one of the more interesting things."

As aforementioned, we still don't know which Marvel character Mads Mikklesen is being considered for if at all, but we should find out soon especially with Doctor Strange starting filming this November in London. Directed by Scott Derrickson, Doctor Strange stars Benedict Cumberbatch (Dr. Stephen Strange), Rachael McAdams, Chiwetel Ejiofor (Baron Mordo), with Tilda Swinton (The Ancient One), and the movie is scheduled for release on November 4, 2016. He could definitely have the role. Lil over a year. This Marvel movie will feel different than all previous ones. Hoping for a menacing villain who doesn't die.

I hope for this movie's sake with it's underdog nature that it is the best superhero movie of 2016. I know it isn't the biggest underdog, no, Gambit takes that prize, but I would prefer if Gambit just floated out of existence very slowly so there is no way on earth I would root for that movie. But, yeah, I hope Mads means he met with Marvel and they're yet to give him an answer, or if he means that he never spoke to them about the role yet, I'm going to assume he is lying, because there is no other way he would acknowledge Doctor Strange. If he is cast, then all we have to do is wait for Wong, now I doubt they will find an actor with a ton of background to be praised beforehand, but I can guarantee Marvel find the right actor for the part. so I think our obsession with the cast will end with Wong because as I said he will most likely be an unknown. Or maybe he will be an unknown with an amazing resume nonetheless. I'm super hyped regardless if he joins but it would be unfortunate if Marvel didn't nab him.

I can't believe how ridiculously talented the cast is for Dr. Strange. Easily the most talented CBM cast ever assembled. Adding Mads to the fray only makes it even better.

I'm barely familiar with Dr. Strange and his story, but I will see this movie twice simply for the cast.

I think he's already been casted and he's just doing the run of the mill "its all a rumor" shit. The casting of this film has been very mysterious and filled with rumors becoming reality. Its a lot of long denials for months and then "ive been involved all along"...;look at Cumberbatch, Swinton and McAdams. Rudd said his Ant Man involvement was a rumor, for a while. I think Mads is already in.

I don't know a whole lot about him, other than what I've read in a few comics and the animated feature.

@DeusExSponge I really thought the D23 presentation would be a goldmine for Black Panther, Captain Marvel, and Dr. Strange news...but with Dr Strange getting closer and closer to filming, it's almost certain that the casting will all be finalized soon.
