Marvel's DOCTOR STRANGE May Already Have A Composer

Here's some interesting Sorcerer Supreme related info nobody seems to have picked up from SDDCC. At the “Behind the Music: Crime, Death and Resurrection” panel, Scott Derrickson's Deliver Us From Evil composer Christopher Young sounded fairly confident that he'll land the gig..

Everyone has been concerned about finding out who'll end up playing Doctor Strange in Marvel's planned adaptation, that the following nugget from San Diego Comic Con seems to have gone unnoticed. During the “Behind the Music: Crime, Death and Resurrection” panel -- which also included Jeff Russo (Fargo), James Levine (American Horror Story), Daniel Licht (Dexter), Brian Reitzell (Hannibal), and Steve Jablonsky (Transformers franchise) -- Scott Derrickson's Sinister/Deliver us From Evil composer Chris Young stated that he looked forward to working with the director on his next project. Perhaps not aware of the level of secrecy Marvel like to maintain when it comes to their movies, he elaborated when pushed:

“Am I gong to do Doctor Strange? Oh, I better had. All I know is, I spoke to [Scott Derrickson] and did a little pitch on the phone and he kind of laughed. He didn’t say, ‘and by the way, you don’t need to, you’re going to do it,’ but even on [Deliver Us From Evil] I had to make him a little pitch to him on the phone. He sent me the script, and he wanted to see my take on it. I mean, I’m hoping. He walked away from [Deliver Us From Evil] beaming… Anyway, we’ll see. Thank you for asking, I swear to God, If he doesn’t hire me I’m going to strangle him.”

Well, let's hope Mr. Derrickson is spared such a fate and hires him. Young has composed the scores for many horror flicks in the past, and also the likes of Spider-Man 3 and Ghost Rider.

Didnt this guy also do the score for Spider-man 3? Despite it being a bad movie, I thought the Sandman and Venom themes were great.

On one hand, I guess that's good news. On the other, I always like a strangling. So I am torn.

Cool. Can't wait for Doctor Strange. Just wish they'd cast someone already.

And officially set the date.

@Dylan - My best guess is that Ant-Man is the hold up. Wright was supposed to do it years ago but kept doing other projects. Marvel announced it as part of Phase 2, but then quickly had to push it to the start of Phase 3. Now that Wright has left and all I guess Marvel is reluctant to announce titles because they don't want to disappoint fans and all.

Joaquin Phoenix is totally playing Strange.

@yoss That makes sense I suppose. It probably is easier to announce a sequel since you already have the actors, director, writer lined up. Still they have the script and director and everyone knows it's happening. Crap or get off the pot Marvel!

Is this guy any good?

Regardless, they're probably going to make the score sound similar to Avengers. Everything in Phase two reminds of the Avengers score.

What if Joaquin Phoenix is playing Baron Mordo instead(Phoenix is really good at playing villains)

Guardians had a beautiful score! And Cap: TWS's "Taking a Stand" track was very well done! I really hope to see Marvel make the music in their films more memorable.

I usually don't even remember movie scores. When I watch a movie, I turn my brain off and just enjoy the pretty colors. I can only really think of 4 movies that I remember the scores from and could pick out.

I personally didn't like the main theme in GotG, just because it sounded like the Avengers score. The score for Groot was great, though.

I love movies scores, it could make a film way better or worst.

Yeah I totally agree with you on that Sandman scene. The music and detailthey placed into it was great. I believe Sandman was originally supposed to have been the only villain in the film.

He's got a good horror pedigree. He did the score for Hellraiser, The Grudge, The Exorcism of Emily Rose, and other. Plus the already mentioned Spider-Man 3. Could be a good choice.

You're right, it was THIS theme that I really admired. It kind of reminded me of the theme from "The Pursuit of Happyness"
