Science Expert Who Worked On THOR Reveals Progress For DOCTOR STRANGE Movie

Naming Marvel Studios' long-in production Doctor Strange movie as the next film he'll lend his science expertise to, following THOR, which he also discusses, here's what Sean Carroll says!

The last we heard regarding the big-screen adaptation of Marvel's Sorcerer Supreme, Doctor Strange, was that it would come "Sooner Rather Than Later," according producer Kevin Feige. And now, thanks to the keen eyes of SHH forum user BoredGuy, via Io9, a theoretical physicist, Sean Carroll, who worked with Marvel Studios on last summer's Thor has revealed further progress on the long-productive project. Check out an excerpt below.

Now that Carroll's done with Thor, he's moved on to Doctor Strange, about a surgeon who becomes earth's Sorcerer Supreme. Carroll's job is to apply limits to Strange's powers. "You need constraints to provide tension," he says. A world where anything can happen makes for a very boring movie. It's when science imposes boundaries on what a superhero can do that the real drama begins.

Although this isn't much, considering we learned August last year that the screenwriters attached to Strange, Thomas Donnelly & Joshua Oppenheimer, had turned in their script, however, this does showcase further progress. Around that same time, it was also revealed that Marvel drafted a shortlist of directors to approach on the title, forwarding the current script to each to try and sign someone up to 'oversee continued development'.

And let's not forget that Walt Disney Studios has two undisclosed Marvel Studios flicks slated for 2014, one April 4th & the other May 16th. So, with today's news, do you think the Sorcerer Supreme will fill one of those spots?

Anyhow, be sure to head over to Io9, where Carroll drops interesting deets reflecting on his work from Thor.

i don't know, i just can't see Doctor Strange being a massive moneymaker for Marvel.

it might be because i am a little biased and not really into the magic and sorcery world.

Just dear god not Patrick Dempsey or especially Nicolas Cage. Not just a face, but someone who brings something to the film. I could see Ideis Elba or Jeffery Dean Morgan.

@ckal Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic-Arthur C. Clarke. have you seen Sorcerers Apprentice? one of the good things from that movie is how they explained magic as a science. and thor had it too.. so really..it goes back to Arthur C. Clarke that concept of magic being a science we yet don't understand. and making Strange have limits is okay...because if he truly was the best sorcerer that ever lived then by that logic..when he faces of against a bad guy..then he'd be able to just turn that [frick]er into a frog..a hero to powerful becomes kind of boring...look at Superman..they had to tone some of his powers down a little just to give it some suspense. now if a guy that has no limits.. is really eye roll worthy.
