UPDATE: Is This An Early Synopsis For The DR STRANGE Movie?

We know the movie is moving forward, we know the screenwriters have handed in a draft, but do we now have a brief story synopsis? Maybe. Have a read and see what you make of it..

Since we ran this Dr Strange article detailing a Scientist's involvement in the proposed movie version from Marvel Studios, many sites have been going with a "Is there a Dr Strange movie coming" approach. The thing is, we know there is. We reported as much months ago and aside from that screenwriters Joshua Oppenheimer and Thomas Donnelly have turned in their script. But JoBlo have an interesting addition to their report, in the form of a story synopsis. Where it came from I couldn't tell you, nor can I conform it's legitimacy. But here it is..

Doctor Strange centres around a New York surgeon, who stops running his practice after suffering injuries in a car crash. He then becomes a drifter and heads to the Himalayas, where he meets a healer and discovers that he has a great psychic power to fight against evil. Doctor Strange boasts powers that includes telepathy, teleportation, energy and astral projection.

Not exactly a stretch for anyone who wanted to make up a synopsis, but they are running it pretty much as if it's the real deal so who knows. Could there be any type of story outline in such an early stage of pre-production? Actually yes. We know the script is finished, it's not outside the realm of possibility that even though no director has been signed (that we know of) something like this could have leaked. Take it with a pinch of the ever handy salt for now but we will update as soon as we know any more.

Update: It appears this did not originate from Joblo as I first thought, but another far less..reliable site! No need to go into the details but let's just say I wouldn't pay much attention to the synopsis. Even though we can't be CERTAIN it's false, it more than likely is.

I wonder if the other movie played for 2014 is Black Panther. Either that or The Submariner. I hope for the former!

The above synopsis actually sounds more like some basic details about the character in general for the benefit of readers who are not familiar or have never heard of Dr Strange. Kinda like something from a wiki article.

Funny @teabag

I'm not familiar with Dr. Strange.

And that synopsis sounds lame to me.

But then again, Marvel does the impossible, well.

Seems quite...basic. Could be fake. Not sure. But come on, I'd love to see this movie happening. Benedict Cumberbatch, Luke Evans, or Misha Collins probably for the Doctor.

I have the animated movie. It's not bad. Love to see a movie.

It could very well be fake, but then most fake synopsis tend to be more elaborate..it's simplicity has me wondering..

Nolan did use a "duplicating machine" in The Prestige.

@DemonHunter15 actually That origin is pretty close to the comic book origin, Dr. Strange has been around since...1963? It easily predates Batman Begins.

if its true sounds good, something different.

This is almost the original premise. Just don't let Stan the Man's original dialogue anywhere near it;

"By the Hoary Hosts of Hogath" etc.

Not good for picking up women.

@demonhunter15

"He then becomes a drifter and heads to the Himalayas"

Doc Strange was doing this LONG before Bruce Wayne, mate.

It's only an issue now because Nolan has gone with the Ras Al Ghul story line - basing Ras there. However, I think it was Denny O'Neal who swiped Marvel's take on 'Fu Manchu' character (also 'borrowed' from Sax Rohmer/Arthur Henry Sarsfield Ward's pulp novels) To memory they swiped the Lazarus pit/devoted (Talia-type) daughter elements too. Check out the seventies Marvel "Master of Kung Fu" comics and you'll see what I mean.

BTW: Not slagging off Denny - DC and Marvel have always 'borrowed' from each other, and I've met him and he's a nice guy.

Who would have thought the general story for an origin Doctor Strange movie would follow the basic origin of the characters source material!

Really out of left field!

Even if it's fake it's true!

If Marvel pulls off even a Captain America quality film with Dr. Strange... they will be gods!!! Can't wait to see how it all unfolds :))

That synopsis also perfectly describes the animated Doctor Strange movie as well.

Hrmm....

As people have said, pretty much the same as the animated movie. Which wasn't too bad! A few tweaks and a it could be a pretty good live action movie. I liked that take on Mordo.

Baron Mordo For the villain !

Did someone say "the synopsis sounds lame"?

That's Strange's backstory. Read a comic book sometime.

Nevertheless, I've been waiting forever for a Dr. Strange movie. Bring it!

And please NO PATRICK DEMPSEY.

If there's a comic book character in it, it IS a comic book movie, no matter how "realistic" it is. Doc Strange sounds like a tough character to pull of. They need to add a lot of realism to make him not cheesie.

As long as they don't take the Baron Mordo from the Animated movie.
One friend turned villain is enough for the Marvel Movie Universe imo.

Robert Downey Jr should play Dr Strange!

I agree. Casting Dempsey as Strange just because he can grow a goatee is ridiculous. Strange needs charisma and presence, two things Dempsey doesn't have and couldn't find to save his life. The man's not a bad actor but he can't support Marvel's hardest franchise to sell to the general audience.

Spidey91 - 1/26/2012, 8:54 AM
as much as I would love Dormammu as the villain,he's just too big for a first film,it's like having the Mandarin (with powers) in the first IM movie
They will go with Baron Mordo
it could be like the animated movie, minus Dormammu

now that the Harry Potter movie franchise is done, the people maybe wants to see more sorcerers on the big screen, this has the chance to rock hard!

I want something diff from Marvel and I'm all in for a Dr.Strange movie and Dr.Strange will definitely bring something new to the marvel movie universe.

Fake or not fake I just hope they stay true to the material.

I have very little faith so far. The writers they hired are embarrassingly terrible.
