"Our plan has never been altered based on what anyone else is doing," said Kevin Feige when someone asked about the challenges of there being so many superhero movies, especially since Warner Bros. recently announced its full DC movie slate through 2020. "In any genre, frankly, particularly in any other superhero film. In terms of the dating, that’s why we plant flags as early as we do, to mark some territory, so that you can hopefully have some room. But the truth is there are always going to be big movies on almost every weekend. What we’ve found so far is that if the movie delivers, the movie will do well. That’s what we focus on: what we can control, which is the quality of the pictures." During the extensive Q&A (via Slash Film), following the Marvel Studios presentation, Kevin Feige also addressed why Marvel didn't make any of these big "Phase Three" announcements at San Diego Comic-Con. "We wanted to do this at Comic Con this year," admitted the producer. "Things were not set. Things for Civil War were not set yet, Guardians hadn’t come out yet, the comfort with dating a few of the other movies wasn’t set yet. So the plan has been, since a few weeks before Comic Con when we realized we weren’t going to be able to do everything we wanted to do, is to decide 'let’s do either something we haven’t done in a long time, or something we’ve never done.' Which is a singular event, just to announce what we have when it’s ready. I thought that might be early August, or mid-September, it ended up being today."

Furthmore, Feige also discussed why Benedict Cumberbatch wasn't announced as Doctor Strange today even though recent reports saud that he's in final negotiations. "I can say that if it were confirmed, we would have introduced him," said the producer. "I like that Chadwick [Boseman], for the most part — I think there’s always been speculation on lots of good actors for Black Panther — but I’m glad that didn’t leak in earnest, the way every single other actor in human history that is of a certain age has been for Doctor Strange. So along with everything else, [Doctor Strange] will be announced maybe this afternoon? Next week? Next month? Sometime before the release of the movie." Speaking of Black Panther, Feige was then asked if we'll see Boseman as T'Challa before his appear in Captain America: Civil War...perhaps in Avengers: Age of Ultron. "With Black Pather, what our little song and dance at the end was meant to signifiy, and I’ll just clarify it for you: he is definitively a big part of Civil War. We will meet him for the first time in Civil War, in costume," he reassured.

When asked if we'll soon find how what actress is being considered for Captain Marvel, Kevin Feige says: "My guess is rumors will start flying this second. The initial announcements, in terms attachments for that film, will probably be the writer and director announcements, which I do actually expect will be quite soon. In terms of the actress, I think there’s more time." The Marvel Studios president was then asked if he was looking at women and minorities to direct or write Captain Marvel and Black Panther. "Oh we are, and we’re doing what we always do, which is looking for the best filmmakers, the best writers, the best directors possible," he replied. "So I’m not going to say for sure that we’re going to hire from any one demographic, but we’re meeting a lot of people. Reggie, for one, i’ve known for many many years, and he’s a great guy. I think I’m meeting with him again shortly. We will do what we’ve always done, which is hire what we believe to be the best people to write the films, and to direct the films." For the full Q&A, where Kevin Feige addresses the Defenders Netflix series, Runaways, and how the Inhumans world is being created, watch the vid above. What do you think?

Feige, and this cinematic universe in general, will go down in history as a special event in the history of hollywood. There's no reason for them to act in response to anyone else. Just finish strong, and the history book will write themselves.

You and the other editors are killing it today @DCMarvelFreshman!

I still think it would've been better to just have one large article with all the movie announcements, and then come out with all these individual ones that are based on the Q&A with Feige...but what do I know =P

Also, lol at ppl saying that Avengers 3 wouldn't be a 2-parter. Because all those characters and narrative can fit in a 2-2.5 hour film...

I have a lot of respect for Kevin Feige. It's really a shame that fans don't always follow his example.

Marvel has always stuck to their guns and never allowed the competition to dictate the terms of their universe. For example, WB tried to bully them by pitting Batman v. Superman in Cap 3's planned slot. Feige didn't budge. DC flinched.

@Mrcool210

I think it would be in everyone's best interest if Black Panther had at least a couple more weeks in between it and Justice League. Other than that, the two schedules sync up quite nicely. Maybe it isn't a coincidence.

@Melkaticox a rumor is different then it being fully confirmed, we've had a lot of rumors for a lot of movies, sure this turned out to be true. And hell i would believe what feige is saying if say this was announced before DC announced their film slate, like at comic con. But with how far back the MCU has gone i really doubt all of this has been planned since 2008 (especially consider the retcons they had to do when the first avengers movie came out with thor and iron man 2) i just find it hard to believe.

"im betting you if DC didn't announce that Justice league would be in 2 parts then Avengers Infinity War wouldn't be."

I don't quite understand that reasoning. So the simple fact that WB/DC announced that their movie would be in 2 parts, that somehow COMPELTELY altered the amount of footage, the length of the script, the number of scenes, the amount of subplots, and the span of the overall plot that Marvel planned for their movie...and all that, just so they could stretch it into 2 movies, too? Knowing that they would face all the obvious comparisons of "Oh, Marvel is just copying DC's two-part event film!"??

Yeah...no. Occam's razor says the simplest explanation is the best one. In this case, Marvel simply figured two films would be better for their movie than just one. No need for conspiracy theories here.

LOL. People think JLA invented the 2 part movie package. Matrix, Pirates of the Caribbean, or Kill Bill didn't do it before?

Alright i admit that was a stupid post, all im saying is i don't think that there was never a point where feige said "Hey this plan we have isn't working out, lets alter it a bit" Ant man is a perfect example of that, things did change with that film. Im happy with what DC and marvel are doing, but neither company is perfect, and im getting a bit tired of the people who act like either company are perfect.

LMFAO! [frick]ing LIAR.

Deadline (and other sites/sources) already confirmed Iron Man was NOT in the initial Cap3 script. It was nothing but a reactionary move to BvS. Wont help though, crappy civil war versus Bats AND Supes?! LOL! Good luck, you'll need it. Can't wait for 2016 to rub it in all the marvel trolls faces. I'd like Marvel if they didn't have retarded and delusional ''fans'' like SageMoron.

RamonSuarez - 10/28/2014, 4:32 PM
I really don't think Feige gives a shit about what studios are doing beyond seeing what works and using it. He's shown a consistency in not letting the current field of CBMs affect his big plan for the MCU. When Iron Man came out the whole field of CBMs were radically different stand alone franchises with the "dark and gritty" take dominating the genre. He's taken the MCU on its own course and set the trend instead of waiting for some other studio to do it.

Think about this. Russos directing a Civil War film written by Markus and McFeely.

Awesomeness. Like an Avengers 2.5 test run before the Infinity Saga comes to theaters near us.

@ElShumway brings up a point of more of what i mean, maybe in not as much of an angry and "stupid marvel trolls" kind of way, but right there, with iron man apparently not always being in the Cap 3 script then adding him in when it was originally going to compete with Batman V superman does show that plans must have been altered somewhat. At least to a point.
