LMAO!!!

Hey guys, I made a fan film that I'm really proud of. I worked really, really hard on it. I spent hours putting in my blood, sweat and tears. And yes, I've poured not just my soul into this, but also a lot of my hard earned money. I've uploaded it for you all to see because...well...I'd really appreciate it if you would all shit on it. Thanks.

@AlexHunter You shouldn't delete comments. Especially ones that are actually right. My guess is you're the one who plays Spider-Man?

Here is some advice: When using already copyrighted materials such as Spider-Man, Gwen Stacy, OsCorp, and music from the film soundtrack, you might want to include a disclaimer in the video and description. It's called stealing if you don't. Who knows, Marvel might sue you for the $20 you wasted on this.

Here's how you make an actual fan film and how you borrow other people's creative works in which they actually poured their soul into.

@Kr08 I appreciate the feedback, but take note I am in High School, with limited resources, this is just a passion project. Ismahawk is more than likely in film school and at least 10 years older than me, I had a crew of 4-5 people, while they had a crew of over 20. They are in a whole different league, and it is unfair and pretty petty of you to trash on something made by 15-16 year olds who love Spider-Man and want to tell a story. My work will get better with more experience, I am glad you took time out of your day to watch it, thank you.

@AlexHunter I've seen better projects than this from other high school kids. Being in high school doesn't mean you can't make a good film. It just means you have to work harder and I don't see that in any of this.

@Lucas Thanks for the support, but it's not worth your time to deal with people who are unpleasant it will only provoke people more, but thank you.

@AlexHunter I'm telling the truth and the fact that you keep adding this stuff to the News section only makes it harder on yourself. You need to learn about the real world kid and learn that this stuff you're doing isn't good. It's called criticism and you should learn take it.

@Lucas How come I have a feeling you just described your life? I feel as though you're actually a kid, considering the incoherent run on sentence I just read. And last time I checked, he didn't create anything, not even good. He stole (being the operative word seeing how didn't place a disclaimer on the video) from someone, Stan Lee, and passed it off as his own with bad writing and nothing new other than him throwing a paper ball at a little black kid.

@AleHunter I'm not trying to be a dick here, I'm telling you how it is. Take it from someone who actually understands how to do all this, getting criticism that doesn't inflate your ego helps a hell of a lot more than getting a "Good job!" from your friends and family.

Acting tip: Seeing how you made yourself Spider-Man because it's your project, stop rubbing your hands on your face. You do it every 5 seconds in each scene, even when you have the mask on.

@Kr08 I appreciate it, I know you may have good intentions and trust me I am not hurt by anything you are saying, but I think that you (just like Fletcher in Whiplash), could be more constructive in your criticism.I am sorry you did not like it, I can't change that, I can only strive to do better.
I actually don't rub my face like that in real life.I tried to make Peter seem uncomfortable in his own skin, henceforth rubbing my face a lot. Once again I am sorry that you did not like it.

@AlexHunter It's okay, I'll be more constructive for the next episode. But if you want Peter to seem uncomfortable, don't plan ahead. When you go into a scene, just go in knowing the lines. Don't go in with an idea of how you'll deliver your lines. If you're feeling nervous, use it in the scene. Reacting is key! If the person in the scene with you says something that would make you angry, happy, nervous, then react that way in the moment with the lines.
Trust me, I can tell you that memorizing your lines and thinking about what to do to seem more nervous is going to mess you up. It will definitely make it seem less natural.

@MrSotoMan Thanks for all the advice (Not Sarcasm I will actually take all of it), and funny thing that you mention the Harry Scene in the beginning because that was the first thing that we shot. I had written the scripts for all the episodes, most involved other locations and more than just Peter and Harry, so we decided to shoot that first. (as you can see it wasn't the best scene, I believe the scene was written well, but we were filming with an iPhone and absolutely no mic. I am not trying to make excuses, but I personally believe that things we shot later down the line are a lot more complex and have meaning behind them (rather than just shooting for the sake of dialogue delivery). For example we shot the Norman Harry scene a few days ago (we film very out of order), and I took time to set up the fact that there is a literal ridge between them. Harry is sitting on one side of the counter top, while Norman who treats Harry almost like an animal that he has to deal with, is sitting on the curved side of the table. The biggest struggle is acting and directing, I have shot a lot of stuff (I work at a teen film company), but when I have to be Peter, sometimes I loose sight of the fact that I am making a film, not just sharing my script. In films that I shoot, but am not in, I feel like I have a much greater understanding of how I want scenes to play out and be shot. Sam Raimi, David Fincher, Danny Boyle and Matthew Vaughn are some of my favorite directors, and recently I have been looking into the cinematography of their films and trying to put more meaning in my shot composition. The tangled web series has been in development for over half a year now, and I can say that I have learned a lot and that feedback like yours really does help. Thank You.

So, I'm ashamed to say I actually read all the comments above...and I disagree with basically everybody. Take it from a filmmaker, you're on the right track Alex. Obviously you have no budget, poor production materials, and a limited cast and crew. I have to give you props for what you've accomplished with those restraints. I'm in the pre-production process myself with some Spider-Man fan films, and without a Hollywood budget, it's extremely difficult to get the results you want. So I'll give you my 2 cents on this. It seems like on a basic level, you did a good job capturing the essence of Peter. Just try to keep in mind that without boatloads of money, it's a better idea to focus on character than action, and you need to realize that there are some things you just can't capture right on screen without the budget to back it. Its tough, because there are things you want to do, and find that you have to make shortcuts to sort of create your original idea, but don't take those shortcuts. I don't want to seem harsh by saying that, but try to create natural, realistic scenes instead of something that would be more real in a more expensive location or with better effects. These episodes are alright considering where you are at in life. Don't use that as an excuse to make an "ok" fan film. Keep high expectations for yourself(including making sure you're explicit that you aren't attempting to break copyright), don't try to do anything if you don't think you can do it well, and(you do this well) make sure your passion for the film shows. You're very much on the right track, and I know you've already got a lot more of this done already and can't go back and change it, but this is a great first step towards filmmaking. You can't learn anything without making some mistakes along the way.

Also, not to jump on a bandwagon or anything...but it would be a really good idea if you are able to invest in a mike. Sound quality goes a long way.

And don't listen to Kr08. He doesn't know anything about acting.

@webbedmenace317 Thank you, it means a lot, and I have noticed flaws in my film from commenters like yourself. I have taken short cuts and I don't plan on doing that anymore, I invested in a Shotgun Mic and even reshot certain scenes (most of ep. 2 was shot a lonnnngggg time ago). I even purchased a new camera and begun story boarding certain shots, trust me it will get better, and that is all because of good people like you.

I look forward to seeing the rest of it! Again, it is so obvious that this is something you are passionate about, and that's the most important thing.
