Never let the lack of an official film announcement get in the way of a good (or not) trailer. Credit then to the folks behind these eight trailers, each giving their take on Batman 3/Dark Knight 2/Batman 7/whatever you want to call it. Enjoy!
The one common affinity with most these Batman trailers is they assume that The Riddler will be the next villain of choice, obviously a very popular move...but is it the best way to go
Batman 3 Our first is made by mixing footage from Nolan’s Batflicks with some footage of Jim Carrey from Batman Forever, it ain’t bad for a home made production, but the thought of sitting through anything from Schumacher’s first Batfilm would send us happily in the other direction of the cinema.
This one takes a similar approach, but does it better. Keeping its running time to under 30 seconds, it cuts in Carrey voiceover, times it around big explosions, and throws in a welcome Joker cackle at the end.
Batman: The Return Of The Joker Just when you’re about to write this one off for its "Danger Laughs Back" tagline, it cuts to footage of a man dressed as a surprisingly convincing joker, arguing that should the character return, he’s ready to play him.
Batman: The Riddler’s Revenge It’s The Riddler again here, with Johnny Depp starring. It’s been put together by panning in and out of still images, and perhaps goes on a little too long, but we really quite liked the ending to this, and the choice of music and timing of the cuts seemed appropriate too.
Batman 3: The Caped Crusader Here, we’ve got a pair of trailers from the same individual, both of which are titled The Caped Crusader. While the on-screen footage is of the Bat logo, there’s been some effort here to record fresh voiceover, and the effect is really quite good.
Batman: Shadow Of The Bat Switching between footage from Nolan’s Batman films, Mission Impossible 3 and what looks like Secret Window, this Caped Crusader movie trailer is based around the idea of Johnny Depp as The Riddler and Phillip Seymour Hoffman as The Penguin. And do you know what? The interspersed snippets of footage really work exceptionally well here. Not much Johnny Depp in it, mind, but plenty of Hoffman.
The Dark Knight Returns Graphics. Check. Voiceover. Check. Cutting in of actors from previous films? Oh yes. Riddler’s question mark flying at you? Okay, we never saw that one coming…
