In 2003, two unnamed producers optioned the rights to create a movie based on Metroid, but those rights expired. A few years later John Woo reacquired the rights and Lion Rock Productions was to produce and release the film by 2006, but it has either been canceled or has fallen into development hell.
After the first time I saw Iron Man I knew a Metroid movie could be done, I have always wanted to see one and with Metroid Other M coming out next year due to reveal more if not all of Samus past I think a movie should be done. the story is not that complicated so making a script should not be hard.... now granted most of the movie would have to be CGI due to the Metroids, Ridly and Mother Brain, and the unique planets but the space Pirates could easily be costumes.... so a lot of money would have to go into it's creation, but big budget is the only way to make this good.
The only thing I can see that could kill something like a Metriod movie would be having Samus come to earth, I am so tired of everything having to happen on Earth what happened to the good old days with films like Aliens, Star Wars, The Black hole, or even Lost in space, where they took place on planets nothing like ours which is what Metriod is all about.
Anyways onto my choice for Samus, This women has had to sit back and watch her co-star own the crap out of everything in a bad ass armor for 2 movies, well I think it's time she got her own.... my pic is Gwyneth Paltrow.
I think Paltrow is a great choice for one she looks a lot like Samus and I would love to see her in that tight Zero Suit.... but anyways, Paltrow would have to get whip training unless they just CGI the whip or not use it all together, but other then that she wouldn't need any training because Samus uses a gun/arm canon, Paltrow can play a nice caring person which Samus can be but she can also due rage which is required to play Samus and when Gwyneth makes that angry face of hers all I can see is Samus.....
