Hey guys, me again, this time back with a fan cast based off of the first five issues of Scott Snyder's THE WAKE. In this scenario I am thinking of it as a duology, mostly due to the fact that the final 5 issues are yet to be released, but also because I think the first half would flow nicely as one film, leaving us with a mysterious cliffhanger that bridges the two films together (expect a fan cast for PART II after the conclusion of the series). But anyways, without further ado...

CREW

DIRECTED BY - Matt Reeves (Let Me In, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes

Since I first saw Let Me In, I knew that he would one day be one of the best story/action/sci-fi/horror directors around, he deserves more recognition for this, and I think he could pull off the mysterious exploration of the Ghost Rig.

Runner Up:

Francis Lawrence

DIRECTOR OF PHOTOGRAPHY - Wally Pfister (Inception, The Dark Knight Trilogy)

This should need no explanation, this man is a photographic genius, every one of his scenes is beautifully shot; mix that with the underwater aesthetic and it could be a considered milestone in cinema history

EXECUTIVE PRODUCER - Alfonso Cuaron (Pan's Labyrinth, Gravity)

With his brilliant directing and writing skills, I think Cuaron would make an excellent Executive Producer on the project, giving tips to Reeves on the direction, and establishing his screenplay properly.

PRODUCER - Peter Jackson (The Adventures of Tin-Tin, District 9)

The Lord of the ring himself, Peter Jackson, has an eye for fantasy and science fiction adventure pieces, and would be a great addition to the crew, providing direction tips along with script feedback.

STORY BY - Scott Snyder (Batman, The Wake)

The very talented writer who's mini-series this is based upon. I'd like him to be a watchful eye on this project to keep it as close as possible to his original material, while also changing things for a more cinematic adaptation.

SCREENPLAY - Alfonso Cuaron and Jonas Cuaron (Children of Men, Gravity)

Along with being insanely talented directors, these brothers know how to write. The screenplay for Gravity has a realistic edge to it with a dash of sci-fi, which is the perfect mix for this horror exploration film.

SFX - Industrial Light & Magic (Star Trek, Pacific Rim)

Arguably the greatest effects company around, they could capture the underwater look, and monstrous ghost rig very well, based on their work on Pacific Rim.

COMPOSER - Steven Price (Gravity, Ant-Man)

Recently announced by Edgar Wright to be composing Ant-Man(as I was writing this ironically), Steven Price has great composition in all of his pieces, and his light electronic horror tone would be a treat to listen to during the aquatic adventure.

CAST

DR. LEE ARCHER - Sandra Bullock (Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close, Gravity)

Coming off one of the biggest movies of 2013, Gravity, Sandra Bullock has the explorer persona and motherly instinct the character Lee Archer needs. Although Lee Archer is assumed to be in her early thirties, with a little make up, Bullock could easily pull off a younger look for the character.

Runner Up:

Jennifer Lawrence

PARKER ARCHER - Kodi Smit-McPhee (Let Me In, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes)

Ever since I saw him in The Road, I knew he was the most talented actor his age, he’s phenomenal and conveys emotion very well. The role of Lee Archer’s son isn’t huge, but big enough for a superb actor like Smit-McPhee.

Runner Up:

None

ASTOR CRUZ - Jason Clarke (Zero Dark Thirty, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes)

This was a tough one for me, I was looking for someone that looks tough as nails, but laid back at the same time, and then it hit me: Jason Clarke. The up and coming actor has the look and grit that’s needed for the dry humored Agent Astor Cruz.

Runner Up:

None

DR. MARIN - William H. Macy (Fargo, The Sessions)

It’s hard to find an actor as genuine as William H. Macy these days, and the second I saw the face of Dr. Marin while reading the first issue, I knew that Macy would be perfect for the role. His nervous but knowledgeable demeanor made it hard to picture anyone else spitting folklore too his fellow comrades.

Runner Up:

Adrien Brody

LEONARD 'MEEKS' MEEKER - Colm Feore (Thor, The Amazing Spider-Man 2)

Feore, in my opinion, is a very underrated actor, I chose him mostly for the resemblance, but I do believe he could kill it as the creepy vulture-like ‘Meeks’ (Off topic, but let’s hope Donald Menken dons the Vulture wings in THE SINISTER SIX, because I think we can all agree Feore HAS to play the Vulture).

Runner Up:

Kevin Spacey

DR. BOB WAINWRIGHT - Bryan Cranston (Breaking Bad, Godzilla)

Cranston is one of my favourite actors ever thanks to Vince Gilligan’s masterpiece, Breaking Bad, he is so versatile, and has this calm but internally insane and troubled feel too him, which is exactly what the ol’ boy Bob needs.

Runner Up:

Bill Paxton

AQUATIC APE(S) - Doug Jones (Hellboy, Pans Labyrinth)

Arguably the king of prosthetics and motion capture, Doug Jones has the slender look of the simian sea creatures, and could pull off the movements and rhythm of them very well through CGI and mo-cap.

Runner Up:

Andy Serkis

CAPTAIN MEL MACKLEMAY - Rosario Dawson (Sin City, Trance)

Dawson has that tough girl edge needed to portray the tough as nails submarine captain, I'd love to see her in this role.

Runner Up:

Zoe Saldana

MATTHEW BRENNER - Chris Pratt (Guardians of the Galaxy, Jurassic World)

I'm really looking forward to seeing Pratt rise to stardom from Guardians of the Galaxy, I based this choice off of his role in Zero Dark Thirty, in no way is it large, but I feel that Cauron would give him more of a backstory with his wife for his hallucinations to seem more realistic.

Runner Up:

Chris Evans

JEN BRENNER - Kate Mara (127 Hours, House of Cards)

Another rising star, I think she's gorgeous and talented and would be great in this small but meaningful role.

Runner Up:

Christina Hendricks

LEE ARCHER’S FATHER - Matthew McConaughey (Dallas Buyers Club, Interstellar)

With Mud, The Wolf of Wallstreet, Dallas Buyers Club, and the upcoming Interstellar, McConaughey has been killing it lately, and I think this inspirational role would just add to his rapidly growing library.

Runner Up:

Kurt Russell

LEEWARD - Rooney Mara (The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, Her)

We don't know much about the character Leeward due to the fact that we're only half way through the series, but I think Rooney Mara would kill it, she has the look almost spot on, and great acting ability, and would make a great leader for the sequel, THE WAKE: PART II.

Runner Up:

None

Thanks for checking out my fan cast, I hope you enjoyed it and I look forward to doing more in the future! Look for PART II (Issues #6-#10) later this year!
