With just 10 votes more, Green Lantern pulled out a victory over Mr. Stark and his amazing iron suit of armor. John Stuart has killed one of the smartest minds in the Marvel Universe on the order of his superiors.
What Happened?
Tony Stark was about to unveil his newest invention to the world at a giant press conference at Stark Industries. The place was a media circus filled with not only thousands of Stark Industries employees but hundreds of reporters, television crews, extra security personel and diplomats from all around the United States.
'I woul like to welcome you all to my home away from home, Stark Industries.' said Mr. Stark into the microphone. 'Today we make history as I unveil to you a device many years in the making that was only made possible by other contributors to the project who I would like to recognize now. Reed Richards of the Fantastic Four, Mr. Terrific of the Justice Society, Hank Pym, and the incredible contributions both financially and in manpower from Wayne Industries, and from Mr. Wayne himself. Please give these amazing people a round of applause.'
As the applause begins a crash is heard over head and a giant green megaphone comes through the ceiling with a message that was heard throughout the compound.
"THIS IS A MESSAGE FOR IRON MAN. INNOCENT LIVES ARE IN DANGER AND THIS COMPOUND MUST BE EVACUATED IMMEDIATELY. YOU HAVE 5 MINUTES TO EVACTUATE EVERYONE EXCEPT IRON MAN OUT OF THE COMPOUND. DO THIS OR MANY WILL DIE THIS DAY!'
Even as the megaphone disappears the crowd begins to panic and head for the doors. Tony Stark is the first to respond and is already away from the podium and heading for the armor that once put on transforms him into the Invincible Iron Man. Soon there is noone left in the compound and Iron Man takes to the sky to see an old friend.
'WHAT ARE YOU DOING HERE JOHN? YOU INTERUPTED QUITE A DELIGHTFUL SHOW.' joked Tony through his armor.
'I am so sorry Tony. But I have no choice.' whispered John.
Out of nowhere a giant green fist knocks Iron Man to the ground with an ear shattering bang. Green Lantern knows that to give him time to recover is to give him time to win. He immediately creates and energy weapon and turns it to the spot where Iron Man fell. But he is not quick enough.
Iron Man comes in from the left and smashes into Green Lanterns mid section, smashing through building after building of Stark Industries billion dollar facilities.
'YOUR MAKING ME DAMAGE A HELL OF A LOT OF MY PROPERTY HERE JOHN.' Iron Man grunted between blows to the Lanterns body. 'TELL ME TO STOP AND WE CAN TALK ABOUT THIS.'
Suddenly a blast of green energy sends Iron Man flying through the air and smashing right into the podium he was only minutes before standing at.
'Stop' says Green Lantern as he flies after Iron Man and the two lock in a fist fight, trading blow for blow.
Iron Man taking many damaging hits to his armor and Green Lanterns aura getting weaker and weaker with each powerful blow. Green Lantern knows he cannot fail or everyone he loves, everyone hes ever known will die at the hands of this man.
Through the battle a section of the facility is uncovered that Green Lantern recognizes as a housing unit for a high powered explosive device of Stark's own design. They had used it before to destroy an incoming meteor, and a terrible thought crossed the mind of one of Earth's mightiest defenders.
'This... must...end... NOW' and as the last word escapes his lips Green Lantern uses his power ring to simultaneuosly throw Iron Man towards the high powered explosive device as well set it off. Immediately covering himself with an energy sheild, John must close his eyes from the blast that occurs by his own hand...
When the dust settles, all that is left on the property of Stark Industries is rubble and one man glowing green in the darkness. Captain America and the Avengers rush forward, only arriving moments before.
'What the hell is the matter with you Lantern! Do you have any idea what you've done. You've killed Iron Man!' yelled the star spangled Avenger.
'No Steve. I've saved the world.' whispers John as tears come down his face and he blasts into the sky to return to the Corps. Knowing that he not only destroyed the man capable of recreating the device, but the device itself John knows he has averted the destruction of the Earth. But that does not make the death of his friend, and at his own hands, any less difficult to deal with.
