Helicopter Over Cambodia, 1973
“You do realize what you’re getting yourself into, right?”
Stryker and Logan sit in the helicopter, discussing Logan’s objective.
“He has enhanced strength, speed, healing.”
“I’m sure I can handle him.”
Stryker smiles.
“See you in six hours.”
With that, Logan opens the door and jumps.
Alaskan Military Base, 1991
“Remember me, Wolverine?”
Logan turns and sees a large, blonde man. His features are similar to Logan. They could be brothers. Or maybe it’s just a resemblance with no relation. Logan isn’t sure at this point. The man has Logan’s sideburns, and stands about 7 feet tall. He is more muscular than Logan. He has an army uniform covered in blood and sand.
“What did you call me?”
“Guess not. Remember these?”
He smiles and raises his hands. A metal claw, about 2 inches, comes out where each fingernail should be. Logan knows a threat when he sees one. His gut tells him this is a threat, at least. His head is trying to remember who the hell everybody he’s met in the last 48 hours could be. He charges, thrusting his claws forward. The man side steps, and sends his own claws slashing down Logan’s back, then a roundhouse to Logan’s head. Logan spins and swipes for the face, but meets a kick to the gut, sending him crashing through a door.
“Creed….Sabretooth.”
“There ya go!”
Creed lunges at him, digging claws into Logan’s chest. Logan drives his claws into Creed’s abdomen, and rolls backwards, using the momentum to kick Creed off and through a table. Logan stands up, and is met with a hard right cross, followed by a chokeslam into a wall. Logan brings his boot into Creed’s groin, connects with a headbutt. He tries to cut through Creed’s arm but something in the middle stops his claws. Creed grabs Logan’s arm, tearing flesh off as he backs away to let his eye recover. Logan looks at his arm. Bones are visible. Metal bones, to be exact. Thoughts race his mind, but are interrupted when Creed tackles him through a wall and into a hallway. Logan rolls through another door and ends up in the Board Room. He sees Stryker, bleeding out on the floor.
“Logan…”
Logan crawls over to his body.
“There’s a base....in New York…”
“SHUT UP!”
Creed growls as he throws Logan across the room, and raises a hand to finish Stryker off.
Cambodian Village, 1973
Logan stealthily moves through the village, listen for any movement. He hears running and takes cover behind a wall. Two huge arms break through the bamboo as if it were paper, and pull Logan through. He is put in a choke hold, but manages to escape. He rolls and turns, getting a good look at his target. Frank Simpson, aka Nuke, is a huge man. 6’6”, bodybuilding physique covered in scars, and an American flag painted on his face. He hits a huge kick that sends Logan flying through the air. He gets punched through a wall before being stomped. He manages to grab a hold of Nuke’s ankle, applying an joint-lock until he hears it dislocate. Nuke goes down, and Logan climbs on top of him, punching his face repeatedly.
“V.C!!”
Nuke screams, throwing Logan across the hut. Logan watches as Nuke snaps his ankle back in place and races after him. Logan grabs a large bamboo stick and breaks it across Nuke’s face, but the big man comes back with a huge punch that shatters Logan’s jaw and eye socket. Logan tries for a choke, but Nuke twists his forearm, breaking both bones. Logan screams in pain and falls to the floor. He kicks Nuke hard in the knee, bringing him down, and stabs him in the eye with the shattered piece of bamboo. Logan hits a punt to the ribs, breaking a few. Nuke returns the favor with a hard body blow as he stands up. Logan hits him in the jaw with an elbow.
“V.C! V.C! V.C!”
Nuke continues to repeat the letters of the enemy as if it’s the only thing he knows. Probably is. The way the files said he was tortured makes Logan cringe just thinking about it. He nails Nuke in the knee with a hard kick, dislocating the kneecap, and a groin shot brings Simpson down to a kneel. Logan hits a few knees to the face, but Nuke hits a straight jab to the gut with full strength, knocking Logan across the room and taking the wind out of him. Nuke finally removes the piece of wood as his eye begins to regrow. Logan molds his shattered forearm back together. He’s in too deep with this one. He has to find a way to kill Nuke. He looks for a sword, gun, anything. Nuke charges, hitting a few punches before Logan hits a takedown, locking in a sleeper hold as Nuke tries to stand up. Nuke hits elbow after elbow, but Logan holds on until Nuke goes limp, then succumbs to his own injuries and passes out next to him.
Alaskan Military Base, 1991
Creed catches a chair to the face, loosing a few teeth. Logan is back up, and digs three claws into each of his lungs. Creed growls, but the air has escaped his body. He passes out.
“Thanks, friend… I owe you.”
Logan picks him up by the collar.
“You. Something in my gut says I can trust you. I’ma get you out of here, but you so much as blink the wrong way.”
“I got it. Hurry. He’ll be up shortly.”
Logan gets him in a fireman’s-carry and walks off. They make it to an SUV and Logan sets him in the passenger seat and begins driving.
“Where are we going?”
“You said New York had answers.”
“I have answers, Logan…. I can tell you… anything you want… But I need medical treatment…. I’m no use to anyone dead.”
Logan considers it.
“Fine. Who the hell was that?”
“You really have no idea?” Stryker asks as he fights to say awake, holding pressure on the gun shot.
“His name is Creed. Goes by Sabretooth. S’all I know.”
“You two used to be partners…God, what did they do to you?”
Logan looks in the rear view mirror, catching Creed approaching fast on a motorcycle.
“[frick].”
