How Should the Fantastic Four Be Introduced into the MCU and Who Should Play Them

I’m as excited as anyone when it comes to Disney’s recent acquisition of Fox because it means the Fantastic Four and coming home. I mean it’s no secret that all of Fox’s attempts at a F4 movie have fallen flat on their face, especially Fant4stic. So it’s great that Marvel is once again in control. However, how are they introduced, who should play them and what does this mean for the MCU? Littlecossack’s thoughts...

The Story
Fantastic Four: Negative Effect
The movie opens in the early 70s where we meet a young Reed Richards and a young Victor Von Doom in college planning a prototype space craft designed for interplanetary travel. We see that they’re insanely smart but also really good friends. We are also briefly introduced to Sue Storm, a brilliant, biologist and chemist who is dating Reed. A fire breaks out in Reed and Doom’s dorm. They both would have died if it weren’t for college quarterback Ben Grimm, another of Reed’s friends. We also meet Johnny Storm who is rushing over and hugging Sue asking if she’s alright. Doom’s face is scarred in the attack and he is expelled from the school and sent back to Sokovia, where it is believed he died in the events of AOU. This is all depicted from Reed’s perspective.

The movie then cuts to the late 90s where Ben (mechanic), a now married Reed (main scientist) and Sue (biologist and chemist) and Johnny (pilot) are gearing up for the first launch of the spaceship Reed and Doom designed. Upon takeoff, Sue detects a strange anomaly in the engine but it’s to late to cancel the launch. They launch and after some violent turbulence, the team blacks out only to awake in a strange dimension, the Negative Zone. In the negative Zone, two vicious, psychotic super powered warlords are fighting over the control of the Negative Zone. The two warlords are Stardust and Firelord. The four of them begin to develop powers and the two beings become aware of their existence and come after them. Using their brains and new-found powers they trick the warlords into destroying one another and repair their ship where they find a sabotage device in the engine. They are all clueless as to who could have put it there but Reed has a suspicion it was Dr Doom (due to the fact that he thinks there is only one person smart enough to build something like this). They manage to rig the sabotage device so that it can return them to Earth. They are shocked to find out that the 4 day period they have spent in the Negative Zone has translated into 20-30 (depending on when this movie comes out) years on Earth.

Post Credit Scenes
 1) A bunch of masked civilians are trying to revolt against a shadowy figure in his castle. They break down the door and charge at the figure only to be picked up (force choke style) and drop dead on the ground. It cuts to a shot of the figure sitting in his chair watching the F4 emerge from the Negative Zone. It’s Dr Doom wearing his mask and saying something cliche like “Let’s reign Doom”.
2) Reed and Sue meeting Tony Stark as they prepare to buy Avengers Tower. They got the money from the patent they sold for the spaceship. The money has been accumulating for the last 20 years. With the tower, they get one of Tony’s AI’s who becomes H.E.R.B.I.E

The Cast
Reed Richards aka Mr Fantastic - Billy Crudup

Mr Fantastic was the hardest character to cast on this list by far. I went through so many casting ideas such as Brandon Routh, Andrew Lincoln, Matt Smith, Tom Cavanagh, Matt Damon and finally Crudup. He’s been in Alien Covenant, Jackie, Watchmen. But his most recent role as Henry Allen in Justice League convinced me he was right for the role.

Alice Eve as Sue Storm aka The Invisible Woman

Forget the fact she’s been cast in Iron Fist Season 2 because Alice Eve is Sue Storm. She’s just simply a badass shown in roles like Star Trek Into Darkness and Men In Black 3 as well as being able to play a love interest.

Hartley Sawyer as Johnny Storm aka The Human Torch

Sawyer’s character of Ralph Dibny on The Flash perfectly explains why I chose him as Johnny Storm. Dibny is wise-cracking and has an oversized ego yet still kindhearted and heroic. Sound familiar?

David Harbour as Ben Grimm aka The Thing

Stranger a things star David Harbour can easily play a tough-talking, no nonsense yet humourous character with a softer interior. Ben Grimm in a nutshell. I think he’s perfect for the role.

Rosamund Pike as Stardust

Rosamund Pike played one of the most evil characters of all time in Amy Dunne (Gone Girl) and her role in “Return to Sender” further solidified her capability to play psychotic and crazy. Perfect for the role.

Josh Segarra as Firelord

Arrow’s Josh Segarra showed he could play psychotic evil with his role as Adrian Chase. He was deliciously evil and fits the bill of the character perfectly.
