MCU Rumor Round-Up: AVENGERS 5 Characters, Galactus Casting, Scrapped PHOTON Series, And More

We have a round-up of some Marvel Cinematic Universe-based rumored that have been doing the rounds online, including (possible) updates on Avengers 5, The Fantastic Four, X-Men '97, and more...

We've come to the end of another week here on CBM, and while it's been a little slow on the breaking news front over the past few days, we do have a round-up of some new rumors relating to several upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe projects.

The next big MCU event movie will be Avengers 5 (FKA Avengers: The Kang Dynasty), and while Kang is still expected to play a significant role in the film despite Jonathan Majors' firing, Marvel Studios is believed to have gone back to the drawing board when it comes to certain aspects of the main plot.

According to Daniel Richtman, Marvel has now "figured out the direction" of the story, which will reportedly focus on a smaller team of Earth's Mightiest Heroes than you might expect. Though the movie will reportedly feature some new characters, The Fantastic Four are not expected to appear. The studio is said to have told actors from the previous Avengers movies to "clear their schedule."

Speaking of Marvel's First Family, Richtman has heard that Galactus is "very close" to being cast, and an announcement should be imminent. As far as we know, Javier Bardem (Dune: Part Two) was still the frontrunner up until very recently, but that doesn't mean other actors aren't in contention (Julia Garner being cast as Silver Surfer came out of nowhere, after all).

It remains to be seen when the trio of heroes from The Marvels will return to the MCU, but we can't imagine the studio is in any rush to revisit those characters after the movie's disappointing box office run. Apparently, a solo Disney+ series focusing on Monica Rambeau/Photon (Teyonah Parris) was in the early planning stages prior to The Marvels' release, but her "story will now continue in another project."

Disney+'s animated revival series, X-Men '97, has proven to be a massive hit, and it sounds like Marvel is keen to capitalize on the show's popularity by developing "as many seasons as possible."

Finally, we'll throw in a more hard-to-buy rumor from The Cosmic Circus' Alex P., who claims that an Avengers vs. X-Men movie is being developed. While we have no trouble believing that Kevin Feige might have an interest in what could potentially be the biggest MCU event of all time, it seems way too early for anyone to have any inside knowledge when the studio's plans for the X-Men haven't even been set yet.

What do you make of these latest MCU rumors? Be sure to drop us a comment down below.

I'm hoping they save Avengers vs X-Men for the finale of a Phoenix Saga.

@BobGarlen - Please PLEASE PLEASE no more Phoenix sagas... not for like 20 years.

@BobGarlen - same. I wouldn't mind them skipping Dark Phoenix in favor of the Phoenix Five. It's a great way to wrap up Avengers and X-Men story threads in the next saga

Galactus is gonna be some butch lesbian because being gay is all you need to have successful story /franchise in today's world. So who cares about a good story/good characters when you got the winning formula 🤣🤣🤣

@TheMisfit138 - nah bro, Galactus is like the big bad, they'll keep him white and Male for sure.

@LSHF - Just clone Orsen Wells. I'm sure his DNA is still usable. Plus he was the voice of Unicron in "TF:TM", so there you go. Perfect casting!

@LSHF - Yepper. This is our guy. Just look at greedily he wants to devour everything around him:

If anyone can order the exhumation of Orsen's remains, extract a DNA sample, and create an Orsen clone, it's Disney. Hell that's how they're building their army of Walt clones as we speak (I know it's true because I read it on, well, reddit). Make it happen Kevin!

"X-Men '97, has proven to be a massive hit" Stop lying, the show has yet to crack in to Nielsen ratings lol!

@Cleander - https://variety.com/2024/tv/news/x-men-97-ratings-viewers-1235951732/

Keep in mind D+ only has about half as many subs as Prime or Netflix so...

...what someone counts as 'massive hit' or not is a whole other matter but biggest hit for a specific platform in a specific field isn't normaly considered a flop either and most watched animated series premiere since 21' on a platform that only launched in 2019 sounds like a hit to me, if it reaches the point of adding massive is another matter open to opinion however.

If true then I don’t mind Avengers 5 focusing on on a small group of characters and not having the FF yet…

That’s the first part of this big event so you wouldn’t want to blow your load so to speak there , especially if the latter are indeed in an alternate universe so to have them be in the one where multiple earths are dealing with incursions (presumably in Secret Wars) makes sense imo.

I just hope they don’t retread old ground by having the villain win at the end of part 1 and 2 is the heroes comeback.
bkmeijer1
bkmeijer1 - 4/26/2024, 2:50 PM
@TheVisionary25 - yeah, they definitely need a smaller team dealing with a relatively smaller scale event to build up the grand finale. This Saga really lacks that so far.

Do think they could still make it a Secret Wars Part 1 or Forever though, where the Earthbound heroes fight a Kang variant (Beyonder?) before a bigger threat (Doom?) sweeps in that requires the help of cosmic and multiverse heroes in the second part.

xmen 97 is freaking great. they have one more season of this good will with fans before the repercussions of firing the show runner are felt because they hired someone else and their vision. they need to just hire homeboy back again. hes out there pimping each episode now and people love this dude. i hope they do the same treatment for spiderman the animated series.

TheVisionary25 - 4/26/2024, 12:19 PM
@supermanrex - to be fair , they might have fired him for good reason we don’t know (unless it was because of his OnlyFans account which would be dumb).

Makes sense to switch from a Photon series to doing her story in a FoxMen film instead but can't see them doing an Avengers V Xmen until the next saga when we already have two planned Avengers movies and possibly in addition a young Avengers series to come and potentialy a Monica/Maria focused Xmen film.

If it is Javier Bardem then great , he will be fantastic imo!!.

@TheVisionary25 - think he has a great voice for either Galactus or Doom. Do hope he says ''as it written'' atleast once though

I have no interest seeing my favorite heroes from avengers and favorite heroes from x-men fight each other. Call me old fashioned but give me heroes vs bad guys. Why the [frick] would we want to see 2 super hero groups fight each other. We already had civil war. F this.
mountainman
mountainman - 4/26/2024, 12:39 PM
@Order66 - If they did it pre-Secret Wars, it wouldn’t have the build up that the comic storyline had. Even though it had a mixed reception and I wasn’t the biggest fan of it, the story at least had a reason to exist. A movie being one of the first MCU X-Men movies would just be shallow.
Order66
Order66 - 4/26/2024, 12:41 PM
@mountainman - very shallow. I get it if we were 10 movies into the MCU X-Men and they did it but it’s way too early for that kind of movie.
Apophis71
Apophis71 - 4/26/2024, 12:49 PM
@mountainman - Yup if they ever did and Xmen V Avengers should at the earliest be then end of the second phase of the next saga leading up to the climax where they join forces to counter whoever helped orchestrate the two hero teams fighting would be the way to go if not basicaly having another Sokovia accords type reason behind it.

Fine by me if they don't go there, but if they did someone like Doom being behind the scenes for summut like that could work with the F4 bring the two teams back together and put aside difference for the last phase.

MAKE A ISAIAH BRADLEY CAPTAIN AMERICA KOREAN WAR MOVIE. IT WOULD BE GOLD. Serious tone like Winter Soldier.
Apophis71
Apophis71 - 4/26/2024, 12:43 PM
@JobinJ - Or do a series set before Janet ended up in the QR featuring the Howling Commandos, the original Antman and Wasp, Howard Stark and ISAIAH BRADLEY which shows why the Fantastic Four are not known in Earth prime history yet and make it animated so can use all the voice actors who have been in live action in the roles without needing de-ageing tech

Izaizaiza - 4/26/2024, 12:55 PM
@JobinJ - That is a damn good idea!

@JobinJ - They'll stick that in to Captain America 4 as flashbacks.
bkmeijer1
bkmeijer1 - 4/26/2024, 2:45 PM
@Apophis71 - been wanting that since they announced What If. If they wanna do an animated anthology series, I think one focusing on superheroes and such in the 60s/70s/80s would be really cool
