Apparently, 20th Century Fox and producer/director Ridley Scott have put the upcoming Alien prequel on hold due to the R rating and budget reasons, read below for the skinny.

The following is courtesy of MOVIEWEB.....

"Things aren't looking good for sci-fi horror fans who've waited more than thirty years for Ridley Scott to return to his Alien franchise. The director's upcoming Untitled Alien Prequel has been put on indefinite hold due to disagreements over both the proposed budget and the rating.

Sky Movies reports that Ridley Scott is looking for upwards of $250 million to make this highly anticipated prequel. He is also pushing quite heavily for an R rated film full of horror and violence. 20th Century Fox, on the other hand, would rather continue the path they've carved out with the Alien vs. Predator spin-offs, and keep their Untitled Alien Prequel aimed at teens with a PG-13 rating. They've made it quite clear that they will not finance a film that restricts younger audience members from paying to see it."

Erickz:I honestly did not hate 20th Century Fox as much of you guys did, but now I think I might go pull my hair out.

Just when I thought they might be starting to learn from their mistakes over at the X-Men franchise, I hear this shit.

i hate to say it but FUX is right. no alien film (including avp) has made more than 150 millions worldwide, so with a budget of 250 millions it will do more harm than good for the company. it would be awesome if he made the film as he wants but it is difficult...and only FUX has the rights to the characters, so, another studio is outta the question unfortunately...

i really f*cking hate fox,if they're not f*cking up my favorite comic charactors.

they're f*cking with one of the best sci-fi horror franchises.

r-rated & $250 million dollar budget or don't f*cking bother.

they would probably ask ridley to shoot it in 3-d.

well are you surprise about this if the budget is about $250 million and the film is R-Rated it will have a hard time to make the money back.

we living in a world of high budget PG-13 films that make money. FOX most likely want a R-Rated movie done by Ridley Scott only if he lower the budget for the film.

Is that $250m total for both of the movies or for each one?

@AlexDeLarge666

remember FOX Studio did do a R-Rated "Predators" with Nimród Antal and Robert Rodriguez this year and the budget was $40 million and it made $125,100,365. to be honest all the Aliens movies never had a budget over $100-$200 million they all was a bit low.

i cannot stand fox!!!!!!!!!! i wish they would just sale all their properties like aliens and give the rights back to marvel for the x-men. this sucks. i want marvel to get the rights back to x-men and spiderman so bad so we can finally see some good x-men films.fox just messes it all up. they have films for kids and films for adults and try to just turn everything into kiddy flick, well not everyone likes to watch kiddy films all the time.

jazz@ You´re right! Scott should just lower the budget little bit and problem solved.

As a teenager I would much rather have someone pay to get me into an R rated film if even necessary then sit through another PG-13 cluster [frick] alien or predator movie.

But hey good work Erickz
