It's a Barbie world, and we're all just living in it.

After just two weeks in theaters, Greta Gerwig's phenomenally successful movie looks set to pass $1 billion at the worldwide box office over the weekend.

The comedy/satire shot past $900 million on Thursday, and analysts believe it will earn Kenough (sorry) to hit the $1 billion milestone by close of business on Sunday.

Star Margot Robbie is also a producer on the film, and actually assured Warner Bros. execs that Barbie was a lock to make $1 billion during a pitch meeting before the movie was officially greenlit.

“I think my pitch in the green-light meeting was the studios have prospered so much when they’re brave enough to pair a big idea with a visionary director,” Robbie said in a recent interview with Collider. “And then I gave a series of examples like, ‘dinosaurs and [Steven] Spielberg’ – pretty much naming anything that’s been incredible and made a ton of money for the studios over the years. And I was like, ‘And now you’ve got Barbie and Greta Gerwig.’ And I think I told them that it’d make a billion dollars, which maybe I was overselling, but we had a movie to make, okay?”

Barbie's incredible box office performance has led to Mattel announcing/fast-tracking a number of toy-based projects, including Lena Dunham's live-action Polly Pocket movie starring Lily Collins.

From Oscar-nominated writer/director Greta Gerwig (Little Women, Lady Bird) comes Barbie, which also stars America Ferrera (End of Watch, the How to Train Your Dragon films), Kate McKinnon (Bombshell, Yesterday), Issa Rae (The Photograph, Insecure), Rhea Perlman (I’ll See You in My Dreams, Matilda), and Will Ferrell (the Anchorman films, Talladega Nights), and more.

Gerwig directs from a screenplay she penned alongside Oscar nominee Noah Baumbach (Marriage Story, The Squid and the Whale), based on the iconic fashion dolls by Mattel.

The film’s producers are Oscar nominee David Heyman (Marriage Story, Gravity), Robbie, Tom Ackerley and Robbie Brenner, with Gerwig, Baumbach, Ynon Kreiz, Richard Dickson, Michael Sharp, Josey McNamara, Courtenay Valenti, Toby Emmerich and Cate Adams serving as executive producers.

Zack Snyder had Batman, Superman and Wonder Woman and couldn't reach a billion.

Greta Gerwig accomplished it with a Barbie movie.

@Ginley - Barbie has a better script, great trailers and better actors.

@Ginley - Fallacy argument. Legacy hasn't meant sh*t since the 2010's. The audience is not gonna show up just because of xyz. There are several billion dolllar films that are mediocre, or even garbage. Transformers, Aquaman, Captain Marvel, Lion King (live action), etc...

Then you have films that should reach a billion but don't. Example: Winter Soldier

@Ginley - One of these films has a good script, funny characters and entertaining story.

The other one does not.

@kylo0607 - It also has a character that was in almost every household that had a female girl in it for decades. To think it wouldn't make money would be weird.

@UrbanTheEmcee - I wouldn't just say it's "not as bad as others say", I would say it's straight up fantastic. When you look at how layered and deep the messages are, and how they put it in an entertaining package, it's really impressive.

The movie is indeed a big win for the studio.

Lots of happy little girls, middle aged women, and gay men are sure enjoying it according to the poll tracking.

If it makes a lot of people happy, I'm glad for them.

@DocSpock - don’t forget those of us whose girlfriends made us go!

It was at least a very unique film but was also a massive mean spirited kick to the balls…

@TheOtherOn -

Not hardly. I'm an old grunt who wouldn't go near that crap. I'm just glad those people have something to do besides annoying me.

@EZBeast -

I feel your pain almost. They tried to get me to take my youngest female GrandWeasel to the thing, and I held my ground. I took the teenage Grandweasels to see Oppenheimer while my son-in-law got furcked into taking his kid to Barbie.

Mid-40s, straight, cis, white male who wasn’t dragged to it and I thought it was brilliant. It sparked great conversations regarding the themes in my house. Sure, it can be uncomfortable confronting the traditional image of masculinity being challenged, but it’s not as mean as people say. I actually wish they spent more time at the end of the film establishing the changes to Barbieland. It was a little too convenient and didn’t match the rest of the movie.

@FinnishDude - This statement is still true. Barbie is succeeding because it's made for it's ideal audience. It's when companies try to implant their ideals in a property who's audience already have reverence for said property.

The most frightening thing about the success of this movie...

@TheOtherOn - Any time Lena Dunham is involved, we just know it’ll be terrible.
