Apparently according to digitalspy.com Del Toro resigned from directing the Lord Of The Rings sequel films earlier this year, following which Peter Jackson took over as director. And in a recent interview this is what he had to say on the subject: Guillermo del Toro has claimed that he is heartbroken now that production on The Hobbit will soon begin.

"I have a huge heartbreak. I have incredible sadness. I have disappointment," Del Toro explained to The Independent. "A piece of me has been dented forever."

The director had cited MGM's financial problems and the subsequent delay to the project as the main reasons for his departure from directing, but claims that he has no regrets about his decision.

"To relocate your entire family, life, home for a period that long without any certainty that it will get made or when it will get made, it starts to become very worrisome," Del Toro added. "I believe it was the best for me and the project."
The Hobbit is due to begin production in February next year.

I don't know about you guys but I would have loved to see his vision of ''The Hobbit''. So what you guys think? Would he have done a great jon? Of course to some this is a dumb question, but I felt it should be asked anyway.

I'm sure it would've been something special, but not nearly as special as I'm sure his and Cameron's AT THE MOUNTAINS OF MADNESS will be. That's the movie I'm dying to see.

im not so sure their versions would have been all that different, Weta will be doing all the props/effects, so it wouldnt have had the del toro art style we all know and love, since he used mexican sculpters and artists in his movies

I wasn't too upset that he departed because I knew that would mean PJ would take over. Del Toro never had the dedication to the films that PJ has shown. That will translate in the films final product. I will miss the darkness of his story telling, but I think that would have been better served in LOTR rather than The Hobbit, anyway.

Nice job finding the saddest pic of Guillermo. He needs a hug. A hug from the Sorcerer Supreme, perhaps?

Really? Um, for your information editor the hobbit is absolutely NOT the sequel to the Lord of Rings. In fact the Lord of the Rings is the sequels to The Hobbit.
