DUNGEONS & DRAGON: HONOR AMONG THIEVES Clip Shows Chris Pine The Pitfalls Of Talking To The Dead

Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves will see Chris Pine's Edgin the Bard as part of a group looking to uncover long-lost answers about a mystery from the past.

In this first clip from the movie (which was first shared over at SFFGazette.com), he attempts to communicate with a dead soldier who can provide them with some insights into what happened during a battle that could be key to the answers they seek. Unfortunately, talking with the dead isn't as easy as it might appear!

This group learns that when they figure out that, when you can ask only five questions, you really need to choose your words wisely.

It's a very funny exchange and one that suggests the humour in Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves is going to have the sort of mass appeal that can make this take on the property a hit.

While fans have had their reservations about the movie, it looks like a genuinely fun time based on this latest sneak peek and clearly isn't taking itself too seriously. There probably is a version of Dungeons & Dragons that's a full-blown fantasy blockbuster in the vein of The Lord of the Rings, but this take looks far more commercially friendly.

In the movie, a charming thief and a band of unlikely adventurers undertake an epic heist to retrieve a lost relic, but things go dangerously awry when they run afoul of the wrong people.

The impressive cast includes Chris Pine, Michelle Rodriguez, Regé-Jean Page, Justice Smith, Sophia Lillis, and Hugh Grant.

Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves brings the rich world and playful spirit of the legendary roleplaying game to the big screen in a hilarious and action-packed adventure, and it arrives in theaters on March 31, 2023.

The first trailer to this film looked fun but everything after looks like a spoof film based on D&D.

Flop incoming 😐

@AmazingFILMporg - flop? Yes. Spoof? No. Answering questions like that is exactly the type of shit I pull as a DM too.

Why is Justice Smith attempting a poor Aussie accent?

Even though I look forward to it a lot, I keep forgetting this is being released next month already. Even though I like every clip I see.

I'll be honest, I grew up on the cusp of video games birth. Born in 86, I cut my teeth on Mario and Duck Hunt. And I never had friends who talked or played DnD. My older brothers never played, so I just didn't have exposure to it. Which is odd because I loved reading Conan the Barbarian books and watching Barbarian movies and like Beastmaster and Masters Of The Universe and Willow and Never Ending Story... so I had an appetite for that sorta fantasy element.

But all I knew of Dungeons and Dragons was the movie with Jimmy Olsen from Lois and Clark and Marlon Wayans.... and that movie was trash. And this movie honestly feels like the spiritual successor to that goofy movie. Jokes and jokes and more jokes that just don't land.

So as someone who's only real knowledge of DnD are reading a few books, seeing endless stuff in nerd shops, yhe Stranger Things stuff, these crappy movies and a few video games I've realized after the fact were DnD related, I just wanna ask.... is playing DnD table top campaigns all jokes and gags like the movies? Just nerds sitting around drinking pop and joking about elves and orcs and shit? Or is it like serious dark fantasy cool shit? Or both?
