FANTASTIC BEASTS Star Eddie Redmayne Says He Remains In The Dark About The Franchise's Future

After Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore proved to be another critical and commercial disappointment, lead star Eddie Redmayne has now admitted he's unsure whether the franchise will continue...

The Harry Potter movies once served as Warner Bros.' most successful franchise, with many comic book fans blaming its success on the DCU not being a priority for the studios during that time!

Regardless, it's now been a long time since the final movie was released back in 2011, and since then, we've seen the studio launch a prequel/spin-off series with the Fantastic Beasts franchise. Unfortunately, that's proven to be something of a letdown for those who eat, sleep, and breathe all things Wizarding World.

While Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them was undeniably fun, the sequels were a major decline in quality, with not even the level of damage control in the latest instalment doing much to put the troubled series back on the right track. We were once supposed to get at least two more movies to conclude this story, but those seem to have fallen by the wayside.

During a recent interview with NME (via SFFGazette.com), lead star Eddie Redmayne - who plays Newt Scamander - was asked if Fantastic Beasts 4 will eventually happen.

"I mean, at the moment, there’s nothing that I’m aware of," the British actor confirmed. "So, as I’m aware, it’s not something that’s on the cards." These comments follow a report from last November in which it was said the franchise has been axed by Warner Bros. Discovery.

That's disappointing for Harry Potter fans, but both The Crimes of Grindelwald and The Secrets of Dumbledore were box office disappointments, and the new regime at the studio forging ahead with those sequels...well, it wouldn't be the smartest of business decisions for the frugal CEO David Zaslav.

It's a shame this story won't receive a proper conclusion, though the decision to pivot from Newt to Dumbledore's rivalry with Gellert Grindelwald was always an odd one. Both Redmayne's character and those Fantastic Beasts were sidelined in their own franchise, possibly explaining why so many people found themselves losing interest in this series along the way.

We're sure the Harry Potter franchise is a well Warner Bros. will head back to sooner rather than later, though what form that will take is impossible to say. There continue to be rumblings about a big screen adaptation of The Cursed Child, though the original cast doesn't appear to be in any rush to reprise their iconic roles.

Stay tuned to SFFGazette.com for further updates on all things Fantastic Beasts.

It's amazing that Warner managed to mess up DC,HP and Middle earth. Like that's a hat trick of failure. At least the hobbit films all managed to bring in a lot of money I guess.

WB really has shit the bed with their franchise films

@Taonrey - Speaking of DC, shouldn't we be getting a movie announcement soon ? January is running out of days, and so far we've gotten nothing.

@AmazingFILMporg - the issue with the matrix was not going with a full reboot and bringing back the sisters.

@Th3Batman - not a fan of Gunn so Im not even looking forward to his slate. Outside of Matt reeves, Warner DC can kick rocks.

Its dead

The Depp drama
The Rowling drama
The horribleness of Crimes

Killed it

Seriously Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them should have been a lower stakes one and done

The whole Dumbledore/ Grindawald story should have been its own series

They wanted to have their cake and eat it too, resulting in neither happening. These 3 movies showed just how directionless everything was.

The first FB movie was a fun, goofy stand-alone flick. Then they decided to shove in Wizard World War II in the sequels. It would have been better to do another spin-off, like a Quidditch Through the Ages sports film.

These are crap.

Shovel some dirt on it and move along.

They should either make this a tv show, have the next movie focussing on fantastic beasts again (like the title suggests), or just stop with this franchise.

Let it die already. I'm sure there's a treasure trove of fantasy magic books that can be adapted.

Those movies were so bad, I wouldn't mind AT ALL if they just made a completely new Fantastic Beasts & Where to Find Them movie (trilogy ?) that keeps the focus on the Fantastic Beasts. Just restart from scratch and do it right this time. Most people are ready to forget that last attempt.

They could have capitalized on the MCU's success with a Quidditch through the ages trilogy, a Fantastic Beasts trilogy, and a Dumbledore vs Grindelwald trilogy. They could even have the Quidditch and FB main characters in the last Grindelwald movie to tie everything together.

The fantastic beasts franchise could be so much better than they’ve been. They are all lacking the heart the Potter movies had. I liked the first one but the next two were just all over the place. They need to choose if Newt is the main character or not.

Good. Leave Fantastic Beasts where it ended, there's plenty of room for another Harry Potter spin-off.

A movie about the founders 'founding' Hogwarts.
A movie about young Tom Riddle.
A movie about an Auror.
A movie adaption of the Cursed Child.
The list goes on, Fantastic Beats sequels flopping shouldn't destroy what could be.
