HOGWARTS LEGACY Sequel Sounds Likely As Warner Bros. Touts Huge Response To Wizarding World Video Game

Everyone seems to be talking about Hogwarts Legacy, and Warner Bros. Games has strongly hinted that a sequel is on the way while touting the huge level of engagement among gamers. Read on for details...

The Harry Potter series remains one of the biggest movie franchises of all time, but Warner Bros. failed to recapture that same magic with Fantastic Beasts. While their first effort was a hit, sequels that became bogged down in the Wizarding World's mythology proved to be something of a turn-off for moviegoers.

While the studio has gone back to the drawing board with the property in live-action, they've found a huge amount of success with the recently released Hogwarts Legacy video game.

We don't have official sales figures just yet, but Warner Bros. Games President David Haddad sounds very happy. "The player engagement is spectacular," he tells Variety (via SFFGazette.com). "So far, we have tracked over 152 million hours played, 173 million magical plants grown, 115 million potions brewed and 556 million Dark Wizards defeated."

Updated stats have since been shared with the trade, revealing that Hogwarts Legacy has now seen 267 million hours played, 393 million magical plants grown, 242 million potions brewed and 1.25 billion Dark Wizards defeated.

That's an awful lot of Chinese Chomping Cabbages!

Later in this report, it's noted that Warner Bros. views Hogwarts Legacy as a "long-term" franchise, suggesting sequels are on the way. "We are very pleased with the initial launch and see a bright future for our other platform launches," is all Haddad would add to that.

Beyond Hogwarts Legacy, the executive also commented on DC Studios co-CEOs James Gunn and Peter Safran's recent comments that the DCU will soon expand into video games.

"Our goal is to continue to utilize our amazing library of Warner Bros. Discovery franchises," Haddad said, "as we develop our future slate of games."

Despite the fact DLC doesn't appear to be on the way right now, it appears a follow-up will happen, and we'd be interested to see what form that takes given the scale of the current map and the way this first instalment explores the Wizarding World's history.

So much for the boycott

@rebellion - Majority of people don't care about a small and loud minority. Its like trying to boycott Star Wars because of something dumb George Lucas said....not gonna hurt the ip at all.

@rebellion - Incoherently whining like petulant children is hardly a boycott. Lol

It's a great game. The trans character seems like an after thought due to backlash...the recording quality and sound mix is off. Honestly, all this trans ideology nonsense will never cancel this franchise...people love it too much. I mean MJ was almost definitely a nonse but everyone still loves the music...and J K Rowling hasn't been accused of child abuse, she just thinks shock horror people with a penis and years of testosterone using women's bathrooms raises safety issues for women. Because of course no perverts will abuse that loop hole. If the trans community just acknowledged the danger of creeps posing as trans I think a lot of the backlash from the public would subside.

@Vision85 - Trans isn't an ideology.

Should we also ban alcohol because drunk drivers kill many people by getting into traffic accidents?

@Unites - True being actually trans isn't an ideology, its a medically recognised condition.
What I find curious is that none of this was an issue until the ideologically driven activists started shouting about it and pushing the idea that someone can just announce they're another gender and it should be instantly accepted and cant be questioned.

Trans women used women's toilets and other spaces for years but sadly the activists are stirring up problems where they didn't exist

Not saying there aren't issues for the trans community but I bet they've exponentially increased since all this activism and intolerant gender ideology crept in.

A proper conversation has to be had, as its a complex issue most people don't understand, but it's difficult when activist shout "transphobe" when anything is questioned.

@Vision85 - the character creation lends itself to the trans community. There is no mention of gender from what I could see. It was pretty well done.

@Unites - Anyone who wants biological males to be allowed into female sports is following ideology though.

@philinterrupted - im referring to a trans character. Shes a bar owner in hogsmead. Just stuck out sound wise. I agree with the creator, people should be able to create a character they can relate with.

@Unites - trans isnt an ideology but there is trans ideology. Pronouns, bathrooms, competing in sport...all the dos and donts are ideological stances. The fact that trans people can fall foul of the community is proof there is an ideology at play. Your analogy about drink driving is totally unrelatable. There are risks that JK discussed and was attacked for. When you cant debate issues you live in an authorotarian society. If thats what you want go for it but they have a terrible track record protecting LGBTQ people in societies like that.

Think this is the perfect game to lend itself for yearly expansions like Destiny 2.

@bkmeijer1 - I’d rather they don’t. Expansions tend to cause more problems because they cut content from games

@PantherKing - I don't know if you have played Destiny 2, but those expansions don't cut base game content at all.

It tells a continuous story that couldn't really fit into one game or expansions. Especially considering all the extra activities it also adds.

Amazing game, been loving every second of it. There are a couple of letdowns, like the beast system, common rooms and economy being a little shallow and wand customization should be available at all time. But this is a homerun !

I'd be down for extended editions of the 8 original movies. I know they have a lot of stuff cut from each movies. Might not add as much as the LOTR movies, but I'd buy it right away. I got the first two movies extended, but they need to release 3-8 too !

DLC with Quidditch would be sick. I've thoroughly enjoyed my play through this far. As an OG Harry Potter fan who used to go to the midnight releases of the books, it's nice to recapture that feeling of excitement after the lackluster Fantastic Beasts films.

In terms of a follow up, I can't say much story-wise, as I haven't finished my playthrough yet. But including Quidditch, more Hogwarts secrets (rooms, spells and potions that aren't required for story but fun to just run around and play with, etc), and maybe even some kind of Triwizard Tournament or big event involving the other schools would be a lot of fun.

1.25 billion Dark Wizards defeated.

Now that's just discrimination at the black arts

If developers are able to keep track of players progress in the game, does that mean you can only play connected online? How are they able to track this info?

Honestly, a Quidditch World Cup game would be a sick spinoff.
