New HOGWARTS LEGACY Details Revealed Including Why You Can't Play Quidditch And How Long It Takes To Complete

With Hogwarts Legacy now available to play (if you own a PlayStation 5, at least), we're sharing some key details with you, including how long it takes to beat and why exactly Quidditch is off-limits.

If you own a PlayStation 5, chances are you've already clocked in a fair few hours on Hogwarts Legacy. However, we know many of you have big questions about the Wizarding World game, including why Quidditch isn't part of a title that sets out to recreate the experience of attending the same school that Harry Potter will one day call home.

While you are able to fly on a broom to explore Hogwarts Legacy's massive map - you can even fly around the Hogwarts' Quidditch pitch - the game itself is never made accessible.

Why not?

Well, as GameFragger.com explains, near the beginning of the story, Headmaster Phineas Nigellus Black (Simon Pegg) tells students that an "unfortunate injury" the previous year has led to the season being cancelled. It's a rather underwhelming explanation, and we have to believe it was a pretty gruesome injury if the whole thing has been called off!

Some time ago, a leak revealed that Hogwarts Legacy's developers considered including Quidditch once upon a time, only to scrap those plans fairly early on.

That was down to a desire to focus on making the game as good as possible and, had they been forced to create a new system for an entire Quidditch match to be a playable experience, other areas of the title would have inevitably suffered.

Plus, having spent some time on a broomstick after first playing the game late last week, we can tell you that as fun as they are to take control of, it would have been tough for them to pull off the necessary moves for a game as fast as Quidditch.

Another big question surrounding Hogwarts Legacy's launch is how long it takes to beat.

We're already a couple of dozen hours in and not even a quarter of the way through the story, but can tell you that the main campaign takes at least 30 to 35 hours to play through. However, if you diverge from the path to explore, experience the side missions, and track down the collectables, it could be anywhere from 70 to 100 hours.

Are you planning to pick up a copy of Hogwarts Legacy?

Ummmm......I'm on Xbox and have been playing. I don't know where this PS superiority is coming from.

That being said, makes sense. However, if this game proves successful enough, it would he cool if the same developers were to make a Quidditch game.

@tBHzHomer - I mean, technically the ps5 version is the best because they have more content.

But it's a practice I don't agree with. It's one thing to have games exclusive to your platform (not that good either but that's always been standard for the industry), it's another to pay the developers to effectively keep content away from other platforms the game releases for, then still charge them full retail price.

@Origame - but that isn't the claim made in the article. They stated that only PS5 players are playing it now. That isn't true.

I definitely agree with you there. Exclusive games are one thing, but exclusive content? That isn't right when players are spending the same amount on other platforms.

@tBHzHomer - that isn't what he's claiming though. Just that playstation players are playing it. Granted it's weird to single out the playstation crowd, but he isn't saying they're the only ones playing.

@tBHzHomer - Sony is missing out on Elder Scrolls and all future Bethesda content. The Series X is the better and more powerful console. Microsoft just keeps making moves. PS had Last Of Us and we all know how that turned out. There ain't gonna be a third game anytime soon.

Could always see Quidditch be released as a DLC.

Anyway, I think 35 hours for a main story is way too long to keep my attention. Feel like 20-30 hours for story, with another 20-30 for side missions and such is enough.

@bkmeijer1 - Yea that's really long I don't know where I'll find the time... Did buy the game though so I'll have to find the time somewhere.

@bkmeijer1 - is that counting dialog? Because there is a lot of talking, at least for me an I'm like 4 hours in lol I need more gameplay

@bkmeijer1 - I think it'll absolutely be a DLC. The broom mechanics are already in-game, so I don't see there being much effort in adding it in later. I used to love the Quidditch World Cup games, so if they're able to replicate that in any way, I'd be thrilled.

@bobevanz - boycott?

@Taonrey - There is a large outcry of people attempting to boycott the game for their own personal belief reasons, mostly related to J.K. Rowlings own personal belief reasons. But it has insanely backfired one way or another on them. Never mind that the game was going to be a big deal anyway as far as games go, those folks only garnered more interest with how they tried to demonish it.

@MosquitoFarmer - Large outcry of a very loud and vocal MINORITY of people I think

I don't really buy new games. Just stick to fishing for stuff on my Switch Lite pretty much. But once I saw trailers and footage for this, and since it happens to be releasing for PS4, I'm definitely eager to give this one a go. And I'm not even a massive Potter fan, it just looks darn good.

Good to know the crazy ideologues who tried boycotting Rowling have failed.

This game has been great so far. Can’t wait to have more spells. Dead Space has been great too.

@TheSuperMex - you're lining Rowlings pockets. Posturing is boring. Be about it or don't cry about it.
