Johnny Vegas Wants To Be Bilbo!

Johnny Vegas Wants To Be Bilbo!

The comedian is very keen on playing Middle Earth's most famous Hobbit.

This from CoventryTelegraph.com:

"I've given up the milk run, hopefully you'll see us acting in stuff. The Hobbit! Please the Hobbit! I was so close in Lord Of The Rings. Just bring me another big spider and I'll kick it's f***ing head in."

Vegas had earlier revealed: "I actually went to a casting for Sam Gamgee [in Lord of the Rings] and got a call back with the director.

"But I did a gig the night before and the mike broke so I ended up shouting and lost my voice. They probably thought I was rubbish anyway.

"I went through a few months of getting drunk and emailing the official site saying it should have been me."

The part of Sam, Frodo's gardener, went instead to Sean Astin. Which was not a bad choice at all. Sean nailed that role making Samwise Gamgee not a stupid dope that couldn't find his butt with two hands, instead Sean made Samwise a perfect counterpart to help Frodo on his way to Mordor.

Could Johnny Vegas play Bilbo? I guess he could why not? Johnny looks like a funny little person. I think he would be better suited to be one of the other Hobbits that accompanied Bilbo on his first Great Adventure. Johnny seems more of a comic relief Hobbit rather then a serious lead Hobbit.

@MatchesMalone: He's a very funny comedian/actor. I personally think his character is too exaggerated for Bilbo, but I could quite easily see him as one of the dwarves.

@jman: there were no other hobbits with Bilbo on his first Great Adventure, just dwarves. :)

He looks like a damn Hobbit! In a positive way of course. I'm sure they want someone with some box orifice draw. Like Corey Feldman.

He's got more chins than a chinese phone book.
There were no other Hobbits that accompanied Bilbo to get the treasure of Smaug the Dragon. But, there were a lot of Dwarves. It will make for a good film. But why would they even dream of making it into 2 movies? One is enough. Geez. It could even be almost as good or even better than the LOTR Trilogy.

Nice article J-man.

He's a very accomplished British comedian, a multi award winner. You must understand however that he is constantly in sarcastic mode. He knows he would never have a chance at this role, unless Bilbo spent the three hours in the Shire's best pub. So please, my American friends. Chill. You may as well report the tramp you see every morning at the bus stop has said he wants a film role. So with that, I would like to mention my desire to play the role of Bilbo. And my cat fancies his chances to.

Actually...Thats how the Hobbits are SUPPOSE to look...CHUBBY!

The guy that played Frodo was actually kinda Lean for the role.

I read ALL the Books BEFORE i went to the show and I can tell you that the though the casting was GOOD, Strider was really suppose to be OLDER then what he was, The Elves aren't Tall (There are ELF Size). The Dwarfs are a little taller then the Hobbits and the Elves are a little Taller then the Dwarfs but NOT as Tall as MEN.

Anyone saying this guy couldn't be a hobbit really hasn't read the Books cus this guy actually does fit the bill of a Hobbit in the Face.

He's NOT suppose to be a Lean, Skinny, Teen HeartThrob or BackStreet Boy looking guy.

This guy is pretty much the closest to what a Bilbo Should look like as described in the books.

Just being Real.

While comedians are being nominated, I say Zach Galifianakis is Bilbo Baggins

Nuba X, go back and read those books again dude! Your way off. Elves are described as being taller and fairer than any human. Your right that the Hobbits are supposed to be a bit chubby..but Sean Astin chubby not this dude chubby! And Strider is supposed to look about 40ish..as old as he did in the film. He's a Dunedain Ranger and doesn't age like a normal human.

My God I'm a geek

I'll look the Elves up again. ( you may be right)

However...

Strider was described as Weather Beaten an was described a bit older then what he was in the film and a little bit older then what he was protrayed in the film. (but it was scool just the same)

Also...A Character named Tom Bombadil was noticeably left out of the film.

So NO...I'm not Way off... ;)

And YES...you ARE a geek...

But so am I...

The difference between you and me is...

I MAKE THE LOOK GOOD!

You don't think Mortensen looks 'weather-beaten' enough?

Disagree - I thought pretty much all the casting was spot on and evoked the characters from the books perfectly.

I think that you're merely projecting what you thought he should look like over what the description of him actually says - e.g. nowhere in the books does it say he looks "old" - in fact, at age 87, he is "nearing the prime of life for one of royal Númenórean descent", making Mortensen just about right.

What Tom Bombadil has to do with this discussion I have no idea. Yes they left him out, but they didn't 'get him wrong' or miscast him, did they?

This is proof that no matter how good a movie, there will always be nitpickers. ;)
