Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle may have been dethroned from its number one box office spot this weekend by Maze Runner: The Death Cure, but the Sony reboot/sequel has crossed another major milestone. Jumanji added another $34.1 million to its global box office total, bringing it to $822 million worldwide and surpassing Wonder Woman's $821 million worldwide total.

Though Wonder Woman had a higher domestic total with $412.5 million vs Jumanji's $338 million, it's the international markets that have carried the Sony picture past the Warner Bros./DC film. Jumanji currently has an overseas total of $484 million compared to Wonder Woman's $404 million. Jumanji's worldwide box office total should continue to grow as it is currently sits at $72.4 million in China so far, but is expected to cross Wonder Woman's total of $90 million in the country.

Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle currently sits in the No. 9 spot on 2017's worldwide charts, ahead of films such as Wonder Woman, Justice League, and Logan, but behind Thor: Ragnarok (851.9 million), Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 (863.7 million) and Spider-Man: Homecoming (880.2 million). In the domestic charts, however, it resides in the No. 5 spot, trailing the aforementioned Wonder Woman (412.5 million) and Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol. 2 (389.8 million).

In both 2017 charts, the No. 1 spot is held by Star Wars: The Last Jedi (1.3 billion woldwide / 610.7 million domestic), which is interesting because Sony motion-pictures chief Tom Rothman was reportedly hoping to a have a sequel to Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle release around Christmas of 2019 in a face-off against Star Wars: Episode IX.

And it will pass Ragnarok, GOTG2 and Homecoming. Of course that's not click bait so you probably won't mention it ;)

Maybe someone will do an article if Jumanji does make the additional $30-60 million required for that? You could do it yourself if you want. Right now it has passed Wonder Woman, and that's what this article is about.

Perfect counterprogramming to the divisive Star Wars film and put it's vulnerability on display to Hollywood.
