The Hobbit Stays in New Zealand!

With all the back and forth going on with this movie, things are starting to get grounded.

Looks like the uphill climb to get the Hobbit movies filmed is one step closer to being over. New Zealand Prime Minister John Key announced that both "The Hobbit" films are keeping their productions in New Zealand.

Plagued with labor disputes, media fights, bankruptcy, and considerations of moving the production to Europe or other locations, the announcement essentially brings to a close a media whirlwind that has been making headlines for several weeks now. It also means the production is still on track for its planned start in February 2011 with the two films released on December 2012 and December 2013.

Great news! And now we can look forward to the familiar surroundings we saw in all Lord of the Rings films now that production is back in New Zealand.

over the top or not, we win. and if all goes well and these movies generate more money than the trilogy, maybe we will get even more movies in this universe. I will not be satisfied with only 5 movies and 2 fan made ones. I want more Middle-Earth. The best fantasy ever.

Everything about this film (or films) has turned out to be a complete circus. I'm glad to hear that it sounds like they'll at least be filming in New Zealand. Let's get this thing rolling!

Necrophobos: I agree- Middle-Earth is the best fantasy ever.

@LEEE777 agreed! but LOTR took what Star Wars did and made another leap forward for the sci-fi/fantasy genre.

LoTR was written long before Star Wars. They both took cues from real mythology and made their leaps. I would agree they are the two greatest modern fantasy sagas.

In written form though, LotR has a far greater scope. Edge to LotR.

Arguing about which is better between LOTR or SW is like arguing about vanilla & chocolate cake. Or how much better the sex is from a hot blonde or hot brunette.

As far as I'm concerned, there's plenty of room in my life for both choices. ;D

George Lucas even said that Tolkien's books were a strong influence on his idea for Star Wars.
