THE WHEEL OF TIME Stars Josha Stradowski And Rosamund Pike On Their "Duty" To Cover The Entire Series

Next month, The Wheel of Time season 2 will premiere on Prime Video, and Josha Stradowski and Rosamund Pike, however the show's stars are looking well beyond the show's sophomore outing.

Rosamund Pike has recently pleased Wheel of Time fans by stating, "I feel we have a duty to get to the end of the story," in a recent interview with Looper to advertise show's second season on Prime Video.

Amazon's television adaptation of Robert Jordan and Brandon Sanderson's high fantasy series, The Wheel of Time, will have its second season premiere on Friday, September 1. The show's stars, Pike (Moraine Sedai) and Josha Stradowski (Rand al' Thor), shared their excitement about returning while also expressing their hope that they will get the opportunity to cover all fourteen of the books.

Pike began the interview by sharing her joy that the show is already confirmed for a third season and also expressed her hope that the show will attract a loyal following that will watch and revisit episodes for the next 20 years and beyond.

"To be in a hit show is a good feeling all around. It means the fans have voted in our favor. The audiences have come to the show, they've come to the platform. It would've been awful if we'd screwed it up because it's such a mighty world that [author] Robert Jordan created."

"I want this show to be a library show for Amazon and be something that's rewatched in 20 years time, not just for now. I feel we have a duty to get to the end of the story. It feels really good to be announcing Season 2 and shooting Season 3 as we do so. Good places. Good times."

Stradowski added that the first season was really about establishing the world and that the next season will see the adaptation really dive into the books.

"It's amazing to see how the show is finding its form. It does feel like, just as in the books, it's something that lives and it's growing. We can now lean onto each other as actors, but also with the writers and the showrunner Rafe [Judkins]. That's a lot of fun. In the first season, we established the stuff and now we can be a bit more funky and get into it, and that's great."

Previous interviews and footage from season 2 of The Wheel of Time have revealed that the season will open with Moiraine and the other characters scattered across the world.

Rand al'Thor will continue to struggle with his newfound powers, and he will be forced to make difficult choices about his future. Moraine will be focusing her efforts on finding Rand.

Perrin Aybara will learn more about his wolfish abilities, and he will have to decide whether to embrace his new nature.

The main cast will return, with the exception of Barney Harris, who played Mat Cauthon in season 1. He was replaced by Dónal Finn. Not much is known about Mat's storyline in season 2 as his character has strayed the furthest from their counterpart in the books.

Fans of the novel are waiting to see if the show will bring Mat's plot back in line with the novels or if it will continue to evolve into something entirely unique to the program.

The lives of five young villagers change forever when a strange and powerful woman arrives, claiming one of them is the child of an ancient prophecy with the power to tip the balance between Light and Dark forever. They must choose whether to trust this stranger – and each other – with the fate of the world before the Dark One breaks out of His prison, and the Last Battle begins.

Reviews were bad calling the show unfaithful to the book. Is this show worth watching for anyone whose seen it? Does it do the book justice with its changes or is it similar to Halo and The Witcher where we should just skip it?

@mastakilla39 - It's pretty good, not great. Hoping season 2 addresses fan feedback and finds its footing. There are reports that the controversial choices made in season 1 that changed the source material were due to COVID protocols.

@mastakilla39 - As a book fan, I was initially very turned off and there are still a lot of things that bother me that were changed.

That being said, most non-book fans I’ve heard from liked it. It’s very different from other fantasy properties. The world is a matriarchy, it’s world is quite influenced by eastern mythology, and it has a very intense magic system. The first book (which was mostly adapted in the first season) was very reminiscent of lord of the rings - kids from small village are whisked away by mysterious wizard to save the world from the dark one. But the book series becomes its own thing after that and hopefully the show follows suit.

@mountainman - is it worth watching in your opinion?

@mastakilla39 - If you like fantasy I’d recommend it. If you do watch it, make sure you access the short animated clips that discuss the history and lore. I think it’s accessed via the Amazon X-Ray feature or maybe they are on YouTube.

@mountainman - i am one of those who has NOT read the books but very much enjoyed S1 and looking forward to seeing where things go in S2. With that said.. if i read the books and they changed something massive to a characters arc or plot thread then i could see being upset by it

@MotherGooseUPus - Yeah I won’t get into minutia about book /show differences, but the two major ones that bothered me were:

1) The possibility of a female dragon. I know they did it to make a bigger mystery of who the dragon is, but the reason that people in this world were scared of a new dragon and false dragons is because male magic users are dangerous due to their magic being tainted by the dark one. A female dragon isn’t scary because their magic is more pure. That plot point has been resolved now same as it was in the books so it won’t be an issue going forward.

2) The finale (which I know was changed due to COVID reshoots). The way the (avoiding spoilers here) final conflict was resolved was not only much different than the books, but it just seemed weird that the people that solved the problem did. (Once again being vague to avoid spoilers) If the way the resolution of the final conflict (army not the eye) was so “easy” it makes future conflicts much less scary. I could be more specific if I wasn’t trying to avoid spoilers here, but the heroes are supposed to be very green at this point and there was a greater show of power than I would expect at this point.

I’m still sticking with it. I liked a lot of stuff and just was bothered by some characterization and story decisions.

That being said - season 2 looks much better and the 2nd book is one of my favorites. I’m holding hope that it can represent it well.

@mountainman - ahhhhh got ya. that makes sense now. like i said, i enjoyed it for what it was... but yea, the finale seemed like they were almost overpowered.

S2 does look good so i'll be watching once it starts back up

@MotherGooseUPus - Yeah I’m done being the overly critical book fan. I like a lot of it, and this is likely the only adaptation we will get for a long while. I’ll be there watching this season and will do my best to keep my book nit picking to a minimum.

The great news is that the story gets much more wild than how it started. And it’s a finished series so you won’t have the Game of Thrones problem where the show passes the books.

@mountainman - very nice. i am looking forward to seeing where this show ends up going... and if you say it gets better, i trust ya.

I did HATE how GoT the show passed the books. The last season in particular... the ending was sooo rushed just like the season was.. and we all know how well that went over with fans.

@MotherGooseUPus - It’s all George RR Martin’s fault. The 5th book came out right before the show started. He could have finished the series in time.
mountainman
mountainman - 8/16/2023, 1:56 PM
@MotherGooseUPus - And I’ll just say this for the Wheel of Time, the battle that ends the series takes place over hundreds of pages in the final book. Nothing has ever been written of that scope and scale before. If they can make it that far, and if Amazon is willing to put the proper budget into it, it will be the single greatest action battle ever filmed.

@mastakilla39 - I’m a massive Wheel of Time fan and hated it. It took a lot of liberties with the source and didn’t really capture what made the books different and great.

If the entire Wheel of Time series is covered and no one watches, was it actually covered?

I hope so. That would be amazing. I really enjoyed the first season and series has so much potential.

I just hope that, if they do, they don’t shy away from a key theme that could be considered “problematic” by some people today.

The matriarchal society in this world has many of the same problems that our worlds patriarchal society does. Without spoiling anything, the way to succeed is only achieved with men and women working together not against each other.

Oh and a black woman leads the society with slaves. Hope they don’t ditch that because she is a very interesting character.

Was the Halo series any good? I only watched one episode and thought it was ok and just never went back to it.

Rosamund Pike is a FINE ass woman... and a great actress. I really enjoyed S1 but never read any of the books so take my word with a grain of salt. I do hope S2 is as good or better. Looking forward to seeing where this all leads not knowing any of the source material

mountainman
mountainman - 8/16/2023, 12:12 PM
@MotherGooseUPus - Pike is an amazing Morraine. Similar to Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine - the look doesn’t exactly match the source but the actor plays the part well.

The thing that happens to her in the finale is very different from the books and could greatly deviate future stories, but we will see how that plays out.

@MotherGooseUPus - I'm in the same boat, never read these books but enjoyed the show as I'm a fan of the genre. I read all the Shannara books though, shame they didn't adapt that with a big budget show.

@MotherGooseUPus - the audio books are good, if that's your thing...the original had a female and a male reader...they read depending on whose point of view was being expressed...rosamund has re-recorded the first three, i think...i listened to the first one with her, but it was going to take too long to wait for the next book, so i just powered on with the original readers...am an hour shy of finishing book 13, and starting the final book...it's taken me over a year to get this far...rosamunds versions are really good...although i don't care for how slow she is when she is reading Loial

They probably should have felt a duty to start the series. Because that last season was barely Wheel of Time.

i really hope matt cauthon's story lightens the hell up...although in the book, he had a tuff time in the beginning...he is a jokester, and cocky, and gifted with insane luck...i like his swagger in the books...hope they put that in there...it was bad enough they made his family so screwed up, as opposed to the book, where his father is an honorable horse trader, mother a loving woman, and his sisters, like any other of the girls in the village
