As of right now, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 has earned $342.7 million in North America and $454.7 million internationally for a worldwide total of $797.4 million. However, by the end of today, the Marvel Studios sequel will have passed $800 million worldwide, an impressive figure for the movie.
However, this isn't quite the $1 billion haul that most fans of the characters expected to see.
It's hard to say why that is, though it is worth noting that the follow-up has beaten 2014's Guardians of the Galaxy (that made $773.3 million). Vol. 2 scored rave reviews and is widely considered one of the best Marvel movies to date, so perhaps this is proof that without Iron Man and The Avengers, these releases won't quite be able to reach that benchmark. Even so, this is a great result for the studio.
