GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. 2 Concept Art Offers A Closer Look At Stan Lee And The Watchers

One of the coolest moments in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 came when Stan Lee made a cameo appearance alongside The Watchers and this new concept art sheds some light on how that sequence was created.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 brought The Watchers to the Marvel Cinematic Universe in a scene with Stan "The Man" Lee. While it was an awesome Easter Egg for comic book fans, it came as a huge surprise as most of us assumed that the ancient alien beings belong to Fox due to them holding the rights to the Fantastic Four franchise. Perhaps it's just Uatu the Watcher that the rival studio owns!

Regardless, director James Gunn clearly imagined Lee making his cameo appearance alongside The Watchers at a very early stage in production because character designer Michael Kutsche has shared the following piece of artwork from the sequel. As you can see, this scene was brought to life on the big screen pretty much exactly how it was imagined but The Watchers were much larger there.

Do you think we'll see The Watchers in Avengers: Infinity War or Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3? What were your thoughts on this scene? As always, share your thoughts in the comments section below.

@HappyHater -
You and me both, man.
These bald noobs are...something in the MU...
A cameo is good i guess, but let's not stop there.
At least Gunn didn't f*cked up their general design.

@Doomsday8888 - Uatu was there waiting for shit to go down in IG... they don't have the rights to him specifically, but they could show a Watcher ready to observe before things get serious or something.

@Doomsday8888 - they arent noobs. theyre stalkers. they appear and watch when a significant change in the universe is about to take place. so every time we're fricking a girl to impregnate her, these bald phuckers are there watching us. kinda turns me on

I loved that Gunn made real the fan theory that Lee was a Watcher, even though he was really just a Watcher helper. I would have preferred that he was an "actual" Watcher, which might better explain ALL his cameos. But it can always be tweaked a bit to better portray him as a watcher. Like maybe when he is in human form he has no abilities, but once he tells the Watchers enough about the heroes he is watching, he earns his place back amongst his fellow Watchers.
