James Gunn Says GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY 2 Soundtrack Is Better Than 'Awesome Mix Vol. 1'

Though he feels pressured to top the "Awesome Mix Vol 1," Guardians of the Galaxy helmer James Gunn knows the songs that'll be featured on the sequel's soundtrack, and he thinks they're better.

A number of 1970s classics certainly played a major role in the love for Marvel's space epic movie Guardians of the Galaxy, and the "Awesome Mix Vol. 1" soundtrack had everyone hooked on a feeling given it was only the second album of 2014 to go platinum. So, with the sequel set to kick-off summer 2017, does writer-director James Gunn plan to top that with "Awesome Mix Vol. 2"?

When Entertainment Tonight spoke James Gunn at Avengers: Age of Ultron red carpet premiere, the filmmaker admitted to feeling pressure about the Guardians 2 soundtrack. "Originally, people kept asking me 'Don't you feel a lot of pressure to do the second movie,' and I didn't in general because we had our hands tied behind our back on the first one. But I had to introduce all those characters so it seems like doing the sequel is actually easier in that respect. But I did feel a little pressure with the soundtrack because so many people loved and we went platinum and all that other stuff. But I feel like the soundtrack on the second is better, so I'm excited about it."

Furthermore, James Gunn says he will soon be going into hibernation to begin the scripting process on Guardians of the Galaxy 2, which starts filming in Atlanta, in February. "I'm just about to start the screenplay so it's a heavy time," he said. "I'm going to lock myself away. I'm not going to see anybody. Going to become very very stinky. Going to eat a lot of crap food and not have much of a life for a little while, while I am working on the screenplay. But I am really excited about it and I feel really good about the story. It really is something unique, so I feel good about it."

Starring Chris Pratt (Star-Lord), Zoe Saldana (Gamora), Dave Bautista (Drax), Karen Gillan (Nebula), Michael Rooker (Yondu), Sean Gunn (Kraglin), with Vin Diesel (Groot), Bradley Cooper (Rocket), and Benicio del Toro (the Collector), Guardians of the Galaxy 2 is scheduled for release on May 5, 2017.

Tarantio only went Platinum once. And GoTG's soundtrack was better.

Curious to see who Star Lord's dad is.

James Gunn is starting to make me a little nervous. He seems a little too chatty and boastful after the first success.

Okay, so we're talking 70s-80s songs for this mix tape right? I nominate:
-Boogie Wonderland (Earth, Wind and Fire)
-September (Earth, Wind and Fire)
-Paradise City (Guns N' Roses)
-Stayin' Alive (Bee Gees)
-Walk This Way (Toys in the Attic)
-Holding Out For A Hero (Bonnie Tyler)
Just a few of my favourite old songs. I'm actually a millennium baby, but I love 70s/80s music. Any thoughts?

I think more 80s would do. Quill did grew up in the 80's.

I'm probably one of the few who wasn't in awe of the GotG soundtrack. There were a few goodd songs, but to me, nothing earth-shatteringly good. Different strokes for different folks, though, so GotG fans, please don't kill me !

He just needs to toughen up Gamora some. Definitely didn't get the "deadliest woman in the galaxy" vibe from her.

This movie is overrated. People call it the best marvel movie... Captain America 2 was better than this... It was more of a space comedy with comic book characters than a comic book movie with comedy.

Don't take this the wrong way, but your taste in music is atrocious. Just plain terrible. Offensively bad.

Love Gunn. Love the Guardians...

...but let's get serious here.
If you stack the deck with classic hits and number one songs, of course it's going to be awesome. It's not like the soundtrack was %100 original creations.
If he jams the new soundtrack full of hits, well yeah...he can't lose.

It's a great way to get people into a certain mood while watching the films and it works very well.
