James Gunn Says The Hulk Will NOT Appear In GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY Sequel

With the Hulk's future in the Marvel Cinematic Universe up in the air, there's been frequent speculation that the Jade Giant will team-up with the galaxy's biggest bunch of A-holes. If that was your hope, prepare to be disappointed: writer/director James Gunn has debunked it.

One of the most prevalent fan theories surrounding the follow-up to Guardians of the Galaxy is that the film will feature the Hulk in some capacity, with some fans still hoping for a variation on the Planet Hulk story. Well, it appears there's no definitely Green Goliath in Guardians 2, with writer/director revealing to a fan on Facebook that Star-Lord, Gamora, Drax, Groot and Rocket "will not team up with Hulk."

Considering this idea was generated by fans, and never suggested by anybody at Marvel, this is hardly a suprise, though I'm sure there will be people out there disappointed by Gunn's comment. Would you like to have seen Bruce Banner side with the Guardians in the sequel?

I love love LOVED GotG, but hope Gunn doesn't get too egomaniacal and is only interested in making "his" movie again, but also give out some fan service, like Warlock and/or Nova and maybe Hulk...

@DrDoom
Yeah, I did find it interesting he only mentioned the Hulk in his reply... Annihilation would be an amazing subtitle, regardless of the direction Gunn goes in.

batz11 - I think he doesn't like Nova and said that Nova won't be included in the movie. Hopefully Warlock will make it though.

This is good news to me, because it allows more unfamiliar characters to get their time to shine. One of the biggest characters I've enjoyed on the Guardians of the Galaxy is one, sadly Disney doesn't have the rights to. Seeing Silver Surfer on that team like in the comics, is always fun.

This is one of the few MCU movies that we know almost nothing about. And it's annoying.

I'm wondering if they use ULTRON in GOTG2, then its possible they may be using him as a catalyst for the mind stone. I cant remember what happened to the mind stone in AOU, but if it absorbed into Starks program completely , ULTRON cant be destroyed because he is the mind stone. Ultron is just his name.

Welp, I am disappoint.

Thought for sure that AoU would be more definitive about sending Hulk into space, and that there'd be another press release revealing the subtitle for Guardians 2: Planet Hulk or something like that. Ah well.

If his script for Guardians 2 is anywhere near as good as it was for the first one, we're in for something special.

@DrDoom Haha I don't disagree, but Marvel has a track record for taking the titles of comic storylines and completely doing their own thing with it. No reason to think they couldn't have done something special with the vague, general outline of Planet Hulk combined with the inclusion of the Guardians!

No @DrDoom the real question is if Ego The Living Planet is in the movie

A planet dude.

Any normal person could reasonably guess that GOTG2 would feature the Church of Truth as the main villains, along with their matriarch.

Add a cameo from Thanos and an ulterior motive for Nebula, and you have enough going on.

But Gunn isn't a normal person, and honestly, I don't know what to expect.

@PsychoticSpaceRaccoon that would be sublime. Adds more weirdness to this franchise :)
