James Gunn Showcases Early Star-Lord Design For GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY

Check out an early concept of what Chris Pratt's Star-Lord almost looked like in James Gunn's Guardians of the Galaxy. Apparently Gunn thought the concept looked a bit like Iron Man's helmet. Like ol' shell-head, do you think Star-Lord will get a new mask in the GotG sequel?

After reviewing concept art and this clay model, James Gunn's direction to the props department was to make Star-Lord's mask, "Less like Iron Man to the casual viewer. More unique." He further explained [via his facebook page], "Very early version of the Star-Lord mask. I wanted the eyes to be big, as if he was perpetually surprised, not your regular hero. We might have overdone it a bit here." The concept mask is very reminiscent of something Isaac Clarke dons in the Dead Space games. Marvel made the right call by going with a mask that a bit more closer to his comic book roots.  Do you think Star-Lord will have a new mask design in the sequel, similar to how Iron Man dons a new armor every film or Cap wears a new costume?

Gunn is currently hard at work, preparing to shoot Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol 2. for its May 5, 2017 release date. Filming is scheduled to start in February and will primarily take place in Atlanta, GA and London, England.

It's not like anyone is trying to hide their identities, so the only question is practicality in Marvel movies (Spider-Man aside, hopefully...eventually).

I think there was only one or two moments where Cap took off his helmet where I felt like it wasn't organic. Maybe one in each Avengers film. Outside of that, I haven't felt like Marvel has been too offensive in taking off the characters' masks. Whoever thought to have the "Downey Cam" inside the helmet deserves a medal because it allows us to get an emotional reaction without moving around the faceplate.

Spider-Man movies have been the worst. Batman movies have probably been the best. And I wish Thor would wear his helmet and Wolverine would get a mask already... There, I think I covered my bases.

Also, this is probably the coolest zipping up of a jacket in any movie ever. I don't know what it is about it, but damn.

I like the mask with the helmet, but I'm sure they'll stick to just the mask so it'll be more convenient when Star-Lord takes it off every five minutes. Because Hollywood.

Spider-Man has definately been the worst when it comes to taking off the mask. Especially when Toby did it. It's like, "look at me....you see, I am playing spiderman. Check me out "
Really disliked that crying Peter parker throughout the Sam rami movies. Wanted to reach through the screen and just pop him one. Judge dredd did it best. Not the sly Ester Stallone one. Eventhough I do like that movie. Like it a lot.
