At the moment, we're all caught up in dissecting every new image that comes off the set of Captain America: Civil War. But our excitement for that behemoth of a film has led many to largely forget about another upcoming Marvel sequel, Guardians of the Galaxy 2. Since it won't get released until May 2017, details are currently scarce- however, during a recent social media chat with fans, director James Gunn let slip that casting has already begun for the movie.

Whilst chatting with fans via Periscope, a social media application that's been described as a blend of Twitter and Snapchat, Gunn mentioned that he's already in talks with an actor for the role of a new Guardian in the film. He didn't hint who, but we already know a few details. Gunn has said he will be bringing one of his favourite superheroes to the big screen in the film, but who this could be is anyone's guess. He said we would likely be seeing two new members joining the team here, and has said he'd like to see another female hero join Gamora in the Guardians.

So, who do you think it could be? Let me know in the comments below. Thank you for reading!

I agree. Guardians of the Galaxy is not a good movie at all.

it's not that GOTG is a bad movie ... it's just an overhyped one.
I like some parts of it, but some things (like a famous dancing scene at the end and baby Groot) kept me cringing. It depends on viewers type of humour. For me it wasn't funny at all and it made movie look like idiotic.

@Nomis

Quit sugarcoating it and tell us how you really feel about Singer and Guardians of the Galaxy!

Oh, and both are great...

@DanMcNice funny that you bring up Banks because I was just thinking that since she just directed Step Up 2 which just dethroned AOU that Feige might look into her for the Captain Marvel directing gig. I mean she'd be more in line with Marvel's recent hiring trends than Angelina Jolie.

It's so funny that some of what I consider to be the best scenes in GOTG are among the things even a lot of folks who generally like the movie seem to hate. Disliking Quill's and Groot's dance moves, seriously...

I see quite a few (actual ^^) flaws in the movie, and still it's one of my absolute favourite CBMs. Hell, there isn't any movie I've watched more often on the big screen. The sequel is one of my most anticipated of all the coming CBMs! :)

The female Guardian could be Mantis or Phylla Vell but it could also be the female version of Starhawk. I don't thonk they'd use Moondragon.

@niceguyeddie to be honest I haven´t seen Pitch Perfect 2 (I guess you are refering to that movie), but I agree that she very much is the kind of director Marvel is looking for their new movies (more than Angelina).

Its just that I don´t see why people think is such a big deal to have a female director for a female center movie (maybe its the viewpoint?). I think a male director could do it just as fine, and a female director can take over a male center movie. However, I wouldn´t mind if she gets the gig.

All that said, I would LOVE to see her as a comic book character, I really think she is very hot!!! :D And I think Phylla Vell would be a good fit in terms of personality.

Well they definitely should start making a good faith effort to look at women and minority directors but it shouldn't have to be the woman for the woman movie. And yes ideally it should be best person for the job but given the systematic discrimination in Hollywood the trend should be going the other way. I mean a lot of the new hires in these franchises are no names anyways. It's not like Marvel are stepping over Quentin Tarantino for some of their choices.

I hope out of the 2 it's either of these 4:

Starhawk:

Phyla-Vell/Quasar:
