Matthew McConaughey Passes On Lead Villain Role In GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY, VOL. 2

Waiting on Dallas Buyers Club and True Detective star Matthew McConaughey to take on a role in a superhero movie? Well, it doesn't look as if he'll be joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe just yet as he actually recently passed on the chance to play the lead bad guy...

Variety reveals that despite being wanted by both Marvel Studios and James Gunn, Matthew McConaughey has passed on the chance to play the lead villain in Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol. 2. It's not clear why exactly the True Detective star said no, but the search is now continuing for another actor, and the part of this unknown bad guy is expected to be filled in the coming weeks.

Back in May, the actor had this to say about the possibility of starring in a comic book movie. "I’ve read some Marvel and DC scripts. And I’ve talked about working with them on some scripts. Nothing has been right for me yet. But I’m sure open to it. It’s very simple for me. I look at the script. It starts with the story and character." Clearly Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol. 2 wasn't the right one for him then, and it's going to be interesting to see if either of the major studios manage to talk him around in the near future. Which character do you think he was being eyed for?

Apparently, the actor who plays Jamie Lannister on Game Of Thrones passed too. (Can't think of his name)

holy crap, I thought Nebula would be the main villain, but now my interest goes even deeper, I think the sequel might be radically different from the first then, hmmmmmmm.....some amazing stuff going on at marvel.

Good. Until Marvel fixes their villain problem, I don't want to see any talented actors going near villain roles for Marvel.

Good, save him for someone big. Chances are the bad guy will be another throw away villain.

Don't waste the McConaughey.

Makes sense. I don't see him doing GOTG type of movie. I'd much rather have him as Norman Osborn anyway! :D

He would be perfect as The Reverse Flash. Him and Ezra would kill it!

@MrCBM56

Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, damn, I would love to see him in a CBM, I think he would make an awesome Dr Doom, and Matthew Goode would be my choice for Reed, depending on the direction they take, I think in the MCU they may be a slightly younger group though

He's...not that great of an actor....it would've been an alien with a SOUTHERN ACCENT lol

He can NEVER GET RID OF THAT ACCENT. Nothing wrong with it but, if british actors can turn there's on and off for roles, why can't he

Him as the Reverse Flash would be epic! They can have him span over a good amount of films. Reverse Flash is not a one and done villain like the rest, it's perfect!

He'd be more at home being Osborn. GOTG isn't his wheelhouse I think

I don't get why people are upset. His acting talents won't be wasted playing some boring, generic, one-dimensional, personality-free bad guy who only exists because the hero needs someone to punch in the third act.
