Nathan Fillion Comments On His Cut GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. 2 Cameo As WONDER MAN

Though much of the attention is on the box office success of DC Films' Wonder Woman, a different "wonder-esque" superhero from Marvel Studios nearly beat her to the big screen.

Despite the movie poster Easter Eggs featuring Nathan Fillion as Simon Williams aka Wonder Man ultimately being cut from Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, Fillion is still hopeful to play the character one day. In an interview with The Ara Radio Show on KISS FM in Vancouver (BC), Fillion stated [via CBR]:

"I was going to be an Easter egg in the background…[there was] a Simon Williams Film Festival, and I was in all of the movie posters,” Fillion said of his near cameo.

He continued, “If you know the Marvel Universe, Simon Williams becomes Wonder Man, becomes an Avenger. So, he’s part of that universe. It was a neat little Easter egg, it was a neat little piece of the universe. It didn’t get into the movie. That’s fine. That happens all the time. I still had the same wonderful experience. But moving forward, I don’t know, let me see what we can do with this opportunity. That’s just a cleverly disguised opportunity. Am I right?"

Gunn has previously stated that he hopes to work Wonder Man into the MCU at some point but that doesn't necessarily mean that Fillion will be playing him.  Will he show up in Vol. 3 or does Gunn have other plans for the character? There are a lot of old-school Marvel fans that would love for the character to show up in an Avengers film.

With Chris Evans recently hinting at a major shift in the MCU post Avengers 4, Earth's Mightiest Heroes just might need a powerhouse like Simon.

I love the character of Wonder Man but dang is he looooong overdue for a name change.

Glad they didn't waste him on an Easter egg.

Nathan is pretty underrated as Caleb from Buffy:

He's on my MCU wishlist, so we gots to make room for him somewhere. Hopefully Alan Tudyk can join him one day.

Seriously, the best use of Wonder Man would be to do his days as a cowardly yet indestructible stunt-man/struggling "B" actor. That concept is gold.

Beyond that he was always "Mr. Generic", and everything interesting about him was taken from more interesting characters (aka the Vision.)
