According to a report by Collider, Tyler Bates will return to score Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol. 2! Even though lots of people were talking about the Awesome Mix, Bates' original score was just as exciting and breathtaking. Tyler's soundtrack for the first film included awesome tracks like "Sacrifice" and "Black Tears," and with James Gunn already finishing up the script for the sequel, and getting ready to hand pick the songs for the Awesome Mix Volume 2, I'm sure Bates is readying to make some more awesome music for all the fans to hear!

In addition to this news, Bates will be the first composer since Henry Jackman (Captain America: The Winter Soldier & Captain America: Civil War), to return and score one Marvel film, and its direct sequel. Pretty cool, right? Will Bates return for the third Guardians of the Galaxy film? It's likely, but let's not look too far ahead! What do you think about Tyler Bates' return? Did you enjoy his music? Sound off below with your thoughts!

Great! I loved his score the first time around. Consistency in a series' soundtracks is always a great thing.

James said on his twitter that Nebula won't have hair again. I wonder if he'll make poor Karen shave her head again.

I would love to learn more about Marvel's composer strategy...if there even is one? they get some high quality repeats (Bates here or Jackman on C:TWS) and decide to repeat; but Silvestri was out for AOU and they brought in 'generic superhero background music' guy Brian Tyler in for a vanilla score. I wish Marvel consistently committed more, ala Danny Elfman / Hans Zimmer for their consecutive Batman movies or John Williams for everything SW. I think it makes for a stronger narrative in sequential films when the composer is kept.

@Write33 generic? You haven't listened to his soundtracks have you? The guy did great on Far cry 3, Assassins creed black flag etc

@PantherKing, very true, I have not...so if he did great work there? that's cool, I'm just very letdown by what I hear every time I see AOU....I think it's underwhelming compared to what Silvestri delivered in the first.

Ballad of the Nova Corps was fantastic!

@PantherKing

Brian Tyler's score for AOU was very generic. I did like what he did with IM3 and TDW, but he was the wrong composer for AOU.

Great to hear. I think GOTG has the best soundtrack of any recent comicbook movie.

I really wish the scores for the MCU films were consistently better. While the themes for TDW, The Avengers and TWS were all quite enjoyable, they still weren't on the scale of the DC movie soundtracks, or X-Men movies for that matter.

However, despite the score for GoTG being "meh", jesus, what a great soundtrack.

Don't think this a blow towards Marvel (as I [frick]ing LOVE Marvel movies!!), this is just the aspect they're lacking in the most.

Hope Civil War ups the ante for MCU scores. Henry Jackman did WONDERS for the First Class soundtrack. DoFP was also phenomenal, John Ottman is WICKED talented.
