Will James Gunn Direct GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY 2?
Sure, it may seem like a rhetorical question, but the writer/director of Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy was asked recently if he'd return to helm a sequel. Check out what James Gunn says after the jump
Last night's early buzz for Guardians of the Galaxy could indicate that Marvel Studios and Disney will have another big hit on their hands when the space epic adaptation hits theaters in less than two weeks. And given that the film is part of the ever-growing Marvel Cinematic Universe, and has cosmic elements that are already established in previous films, there will more than likely be a sequel and/or Avengers crossover somewhere down the line; It could already have a release date. However, the big question is will James Gunn give up another two+ years of his life and direct the Guardians sequel? “I’m actually in a somewhat weird position,” he told The Adam Corolla Show (via Screenrant) during a recent podcast interview. “Because if the movie does well, then I’m gonna make the sequel. And if it does okay then, well, I’ve already been offered other movies but I can only do those other movies if I don’t do the sequel, so it’s a weird situation.”
Tracking for the movie's opening weekend is reportedly at $60 million. James Gunn will be back.
There has already been heavy speculation of the direction Marvel will take with the inevitable Guardians of the Galaxy follow-up which is based solely on a pretty big Avengers: Age of Ultron spoiler. However, it's no secret the Mad titan Thanos will appear in the first Guardians movie, voiced by Josh Brolin, and that he's been looming in the shadows of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and gathering the six Infinity Gems to form his Infinity Gauntlet. Surely both the Avengers and the Guardians of the Galaxy will be around when the purple villain nears achieving his evil plan.
