Avengers: Infinity War may not mention Star-Lord's team in the title but the Guardians of the Galaxy will play a big role in the battle against Thanos. Seeing them assemble alongside Earth's Mightiest Heroes promises to be extremely satisfying and we're now taking a look back at Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, a movie which firmly established this group's place in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

While 2014's Guardians of the Galaxy introduced us to James Gunn's brilliant take on the group of A-Holes, the follow-up fleshed them out to an even greater extent and gave them new looks to boot.

Of course, there was a lot more to this movie than just the Guardians themselves. Howard the Duck made his big screen return for an unexpected cameo, while Yondu also went through quite a few changes before his heartbreaking demise. Then, there the love-bots, a brilliantly designed group of androids used by the Ravagers to fulfil their...needs. Here, you'll find alternate designs for them all!

To check those out, all you guys need to do is click on either of the buttons below for the entire list.

Howard The Duck

The last time we saw Howard, he was sharing a drink with The Collector after breaking out from the containment cell he was being kept in. Here, we see him get a totally new look for the sequel.

This is a little closer to what fans are used to and seeing as James Gunn has now used Howard twice in the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise, it will be interesting seeing what he does in Vol. 3!

There are only some subtle changes to Howard here but the hat is a very nice addition and he looked great in Vol. 2. It's fair to say, though, that fans want to see him interact with the Guardians!

Marvel's concept artists were clearly experimenting with some different facial expressions here and it's interesting seeing just how much work was put into what was essentially seconds of screentime.

And finally, we have the Howard the Duck who appeared in the sequel. What the future holds in store for him remains to be seen but it's hard to imagine him ever getting his own spinoff, unfortunately.

The Love-Bots

Cosmic, robotic prostitutes probably aren't something we ever expected to see in the Marvel Cinematic Universe but there they were in Vol. 2 as Yondu buckled up his pants moments after finishing with one!

Is it me or does this one look like it's somewhat Blade Runner inspired? She's obviously a lot more robotic in appearance too which has the effect of making her look quite a bit less feminine.

That transparent midsection giving us a look at the inner working of these love-bots is very cool but it would have obviously cost Marvel a lot of money to show that for a few minutes of screentime.

Despite being a relatively minor part of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, Marvel's talented team of concept artists clearly had a lot of fun designing these love-bots used with much glee by the Ravagers.

A variety of takes on the final version of the sequel's love-bots, it's interesting to see what could have been had just a few subtle changes been made during the course of pre-production.

We didn't get to see a whole lot of these love-bots in action but here we see Yondu meeting up with one seemingly moments before the Ravager leader is taken away to the bedroom we first find him in.

These two very cool alternate designs would have definitely worked just as well as what ended up on screen and while their bodies are nearly identical, there's a lot here which distinguishes them both.

Well, she looks nice! A far more human take on one of these love-bots, perhaps these just weren't robotic enough to get over the fact the Ravagers spend their time getting personal with androids!

Yondu

Fans weren't happy when Yondu's fin wasn't part of the first Guardians of the Galaxy but it played a key role in the sequel and here we see a variety of designs used in the early stages of production.

Missing Star-Lord and clearly aware his Ravagers are growing dissatisfied with his leadership, a rather depressed looking Yondu can be seen in this piece moments after "hanging out" with a Love-Bot.

A lot of changes to Yondu's appearance weren't really necessary moving into the sequel but a lot of thought was clearly put into giving him some upgrades and he looks like a total badass here.

What an awesome piece of imagery. Yondu, Rocket, and Baby Groot teaming up to take down Taserface and the rest of the villainous Ravagers made for a great time and they were a fantastic team!

I really hope Drax dies in Avengers 3 so he can't talk about his sensitive nipples, enormous bowel movements, and getting aroused by watching his wife sit motionless anymore. He became a parody of his himself.

@blackandyellow - His wife never really bothered me, but i agree with the rest . He was such a badass in gotg 1. Controversial opinion. Don't think he should die though, he can still be fixed.

GotGV2 was all about family. The end of the first movie shows Drax acknowledging them as his friends for the first time, and showing that it's a new concept to him.

In the sequel, we see his arc further so that he becomes more comfortable around others for the first time since he lost his family. We get to see the rest of the Guardians pierce that veil to get to Drax's emotions, which was a lot more important than allowing Drax to look badass.

Groot being a baby altered the dynamic of the group as well, we see Gamora being motherly for the first time with him, Peter being forced to become more responsible in turn to Groot's childish irresponsibility, and we even see a bit of how that effects Gamora and Peter's relationship with one another.

With Peter basically taking the role on as the new father and Drax obviously settling into the drunk uncle, Rocket feels left out and even that no one needs him. This makes him especially vulnerable to his insecurities about his personality as we see him explore with Yondu, and later when Peter assures him that the rest of the family wouldn't leave him behind.

Tie the whole thing up neatly with Cat Stephens' Father and Son bow around Ego's story and Yondu's funeral the way Gunn did, and you have a film about family.

I don't know if yall remember but the song that plays when they first cut to Contraxia has been in my head for a year now and I (along with many others) have searched everywhere for it. Gunn said on Twitter the singer for Mindless Self Indulgence recorded the song specially for him and the movie and it hasn't been released anywhere to this day. It sucks because it really is a great song. This is the best recreation I can find on youtube, idk when he plans on releasing it.

Some of the inspiration for those love bots seems to have come from The Fifth Element.

@HeavyMetal4Life -

TFE was the movie that came to mind most when I first saw GOTG and that's gone a long way towards me being extra endeared to that corner of the MCU. One of my favorite sci fi movies growing up

@OmegaDaGrodd - Great movie, very classic. You can tell it was certainly on their mind when thinking about this film. One of the concept pieces for Mainframe is also very Fifth Elementy. Hope they go with this design in the future.

Rewatching the MCU and after passing through THOR 2 I realized that I've really taken Gunn's zaniness for granted. The MCU has obviously gotten weirder over time and THE DARK WORLD does a good job of starting to broaden the horizons, but Gunn going so far overboard on certain things has really gone a long way towards making the galaxy seem far more alien and lived in than the MCU had seemed up to that point

The Love bots reminds me of the sex bots of Rick & Morty. Such a funny episode.
