Iron Man: the first film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). The film that ushered in shared cinematic universes into the mainstream market. As you can imagine, a lot of effort went into the making of this film, but there is one aspect of the film you may not expect that much effort went into - the title logo. The design of the logo for a film is actually far more important than one might think, as it is one of the first and most prominent things movie-goers will see on posters, ads and trailers. So naturally, a title logo NEEDS to:
  • Capture the essence of the film
  • Look good and well-designed
So, as it is with any piece of art, they didn't quite get what they wanted on the first attempt. For those needing a refresher, here is the FINAL logo that was released with the film:

Fede Ponce, a freelance creative director who is "called for a lot of Marvel projects", said this about the finished logo while speaking to filmsketchr:

"We go through a lot of iterations and concepts when designing. For this particular case, I had read the script and was able to grasp what the director wanted to talk about in this movie. The movie in essence is about redemption, about being broken and being re-born. So the main title had all those elements in it"

So, what about all these other concepts and designs he mentioned? Well, you can check those out here:

So, what do you guys think? Are you happy with the design that was released for the film, or would you have chosen any of these instead? Sound off in the comments below, and make sure to share and hit that like button!

@RorMachine

So, just checking because of the feedback you gave me - is this kind of content OK, or is this more a "feature/non-news" type article?

Looks like they went back to the late 80's to late 90's and cleaned up some video game graphics.I like it!!!

I'm happy with the logo that we got. These other ones just look too cartoony.

What they ended with was the best. I still think Thor's logo trumps them all

Thank God we dodged these bullets. This is one of the few times I can say, there was not a better option left on the table.

@Gutspinner

Great job with this (and a lot of articles lately, actually). This is exactly the kind of user-generated content that I like to see on this site.

On topic, I like the second to last one with the arc reactor on it, but the one we got was the best.

All of the Marvel logos are pretty much fine to me (except Civil War, which I don't really care for). Oddly enough I really like the Ant-Man one. Just nice, clean, and classy.

I was trying to think of a CBM logo that I didn't like, but the final versions of them all look pretty good across studios... oh I thought of one.

F4N74571C... The 4 (which is an awkward symbol due to it's asymmetry) was made more lopsided looking by putting it in a square. It's not the worst thing in the world, but definitely missed the mark for me.

And now that I look at it, I'm surprised I haven't seen a version of the Four standing at each "corner" of the number, where the lines are created from them casting shadows from various light sources...

Not sure it could look good in live action, but you could definitely get away with it in four color...

Something like this (please forgive the obvious crudeness, but this is just to show the broadest strokes of what I mean). Looking at it, it's vaguely familiar, though, so I'm sure there must have been some comic covers or maybe cartoons that did this.

I wonder how they're gonna do the Spider-Man Logo for 2017...

I still think this to be the best one thus far.

Anyone think that the fourth one is a little... phallic?

@Spock0Clock

First of all, thank you for the nice words :) (I'm stuck at work all day today, so I'm not sure if I'll be able to do anything today :( )
Also, thank you for your contribution to the discussion :)
Yeah, civil war could've be better, but they definitely could have done worse (I.E. The shield being the hole in the A), and Fant4stic certainly could have been better executed (considering the 4 didn't even make it into the movie, boxing it up like an emblem makes NO sense)

@SpectacularJoShFest @Melkaticox

Daredevil logo is awesome (as was the whole title sequence)

@ThemightyDucks

Nah, I'm not mad anymore :)
A couple have gone down (not all done by Ror though), but my initial comment on this post literally was checking to see if this type of content was ok based on feedback I received by @Rormachine
But yeah, does kinda suck, but I understand why they had to go now :)

Also, my personal favourite is the last one
The 7th is the kind of logo I see Masters of the Universe getting tbh

@Melkaticox

Oh, I really like this.

Maybe a little bit sharper of an edge to give the "hard metally" look that they all seem to share, but the font is damn near perfect.
