In a recent interview with IGN, Guy Pearce (Aldrich Killian) spoke on the iconic Trevor Slattery. "Personally, I loved it, and I was never a comic book fan growing up, said Pearce, So I have no attachment to the [Mandarin]. I mean, I get it. The loyalty to those characters, I totally get it, but based on the sort of single-entity movie -- and particularly based on Ben Kingsley's performance -- I just adored what that turned into. But I do certainly understand that some die hard fans kind of went, 'Aww... Come on!' [Laughs]" Well that sums it up. It's been one year, how do you feel about the Mandarin Twist as of now? We know there's a REAL Mandarin out there thanks to the Marvel One Shot All Hail The King. Would you want to see The Mandarin again? Sound off below!

I disagree so much. I guess if you are unaware of [frick]ing anything then you'll like it, but I have always thought of Mandarin as Iron Man's greatest villain and the character with the most potential. Huge waste and so unnecessary.

What a total [frick]ing douche....

Classic inability to own your [frick] up...There is a reason Marvel moved immediately to fix that shit...

I loved the twist. I haven't seen a twist executed that well since Usual Suspects.

And the movie as a whole reflected today's own society with it's poignant discussion of domestic terrorism, drone warfare, and the arms race. Pure brilliance from Shane Black, Drew Pirece and co.

The funny thing is though, me not being a huge Mandarin fan, I can still say the twist was pretty much horrible. From the execution to even the root of the idea.

If it really was the last Iron Man then the twist was very upsetting
If there's really gonna be IM4 then bring on the real Mandarin.

Although I would've rather seen Madame Masque. I'm still hopeful.

I have no problem with changing a villain or anything in a CBM for that matter. BUT THE CHANGE HAS TO BE GOOD TO JUSTIFY THE CHANGE! Or at the very least not as laughably bad as what happened in this train wreck of a movie.

Besides the mandarin twist wasn't even the movie's biggest problem. How about the inconsistent tone, the paper thin character development, the lack of character motivations, the plot hole filled "extremis", the poorly directed action sequences, the lack of SHIELD, the crappy post-credits scene, etc...etc...

Well, I think it worked well for the story and I think that was not the last we saw of Mandarin.

"Mandarin is not even a good villain so who cares?"

The amount of fans who started coming out of nowhere when the film was released. Seriously, The way the reaction was, you'd thought there was a huge number of Mandarin fans for decades.

The twist really brought the movie down for me, because up until that point I was actually enjoying myself. That entire second half was just..... painful.

Guy is a cool dude,I enjoy his acting.
Of course he's going to say he liked the "twist"..he was a part of the movie!

I do feel he's being honest & with no history of reading Iron Man comics why would he care about the REAL Mandarin?
He was smart to say he understands fan reaction, this topic will never really end.

See now with what he said there "single-entity movie".....id be alright with it. I mean everything in IM3 acted like basically nothing from all the other films happened anyway. But the problem is that it is part of a giant on screen world so it needs to connect to them....it didn't and now they are gonna have to make up some kind of bullshit excuse as to why and how the real Mandarin "fixes" this mess......$10 says they just gonna blame Hydra for it lol

While this twist was not what killed the movie for me, mostly because I remember some cock face spoiling the twist in these here threads, it was disappointing he wasn't truly the Mandarin. The film had an epic feeling up until that point.

"Single-entity"? Iron Man 3 was a direct sequel to Avengers and prequel to the rest of phase 2. It was not a solo-spin-off. It was a continuation. Not to mention it was suppose to be a representation of the comics, which it failed at. Mandarin was barely a thread in the sweater of all the shit that was wrong with this movie. Iron Patriot, the constant back and forth of the film trying to figure out if it wanted to be a comedy or action drama, etc. There was a lot wrong with that crapfest. I watched it 3 times, and that's more than enough for me. It was a disappointment, especially with it coming after it's past 2 films and Avengers.
Phronesis
Phronesis - 6/13/2014, 1:54 PM
@McNyango Just because there isn't a large amount of Mandarin fans shouldn't lower anybody's expectation of expecting a great villain. The logic otherwise is utterly stupid.

@mcnyagano

Yep!!!!

I was like "WOW" where the hell did y'all come from!?!

I was pretty indifferent about the mandarin
I just didn't like the fact they hyped up the Ten rings/ mandarin in the first to iron man movies and we didn't really get a pay off in the 3rd one
