Why I Didn't Like IRON MAN 3

Some very good reasons why Iron Man 3 disappointed me a lot and made me sad. It is not just another rant of iron man 3, I think that if you read it you will understand me. I really wanted to do this and express myself.

Iron Man 3 dissapointed me a lot. When i first saw the trailer back in November 2012 and i first saw the Mandarin, i was sold. That character was completely epic. I don't even know how many times i saw that trailer, i guess around 25 times. I waited a lot for the second and longuer trailer. That one alredy sold me a lot more. I didn't even knew the character, i knew it existed but i didn't have any comics about him and i didn't knew his story. I used to listen to the music and the voicce of the mandarin of that second trailer a lot because i loved it.

So when i went to the premier of Iron Man 3 you can imagine why i hate that movie a lot. When the Trevor Slattery Twist happened i thought "oh, that must be a double of the Mandarin or something" and then when the movie kept going on i said "well, this must be some iron man comic storyline". So then when the movie ended i was like: "That was it? This is all i ever waited for?" I couldn't believe it and i was very sad. I live in Spain so the premier was some days earlier than in U.S.A. (Altough of course i used to see all of the trailers in english). So i waited for the movie to arrive to the cinemas of the United States because i thought that maybe in Spain they used another version or something because i literally couldn't believe it. When i arrived home i did a review for youtube very angry and even swearing. But i didn't really expressed myself very good because i was angry.

Days later, when the movie arrived to the cinemas of the United States a lot of people and reviewers that i used to watch on Youtube seemed to like it. And now i was kinda angry. The exuse that was used the most was: "Oh, come on fanboys! The Mandarin is just an evil bad guy! Who cares! The movie was great! The Mandarin is a B or C class villain. What is the matter if he is not like in the comics?"

Look, i don't care if the mandarin is even a class Z villain. I just wanted an epic character, with epic phrases that made me had chillis. What i want to spread is that i didn't like Mandarin because he was not like in the comics. I didn't like the Mandarin because he was not character i wanted. He was not epic, he was not cool, he was not a bad ass. That is why i didn't like the Mandarin. I don't care if in the comics is stupid or not a cool enough villain, cause i don't care about the Mandarin from the comics, even i think he would't work in a movie with those "magic rings".

Plus, if you are using that excuse then i can say that Obadiah Stane was a C class villain. Or iron man was a B class hero. But look what happened: They rocked! And even if I ever accept the Mandarin's twist i would still not enjoy it, because i think to make a good sequel you have to keep the same tone and style of movie. That is why the Chronicles of Riddick is worse than Pitchblack. I felt like i was watching a james bond movie because he did not have the armour in a lot of action scenes and he was like a detective trying to resolve a case about people exploding (extremis). And there was kid. You cannot throw a random kid in an iron man movie because it completely changes the tone. I guess that was disney's fault.

So... do you know what i did when i arrived from the cinema aside from doing the review? I watched one more time the trailer and i said: That is a cool movie and a cool villain. Not what i watched.

Dude this was months ago and you are still upset. Get over it and get on with your life. I enjoyed the storytelling even if I was a lil disappointed wit the Mandarin twist. BTW proofread your article before submitting that makes me think you’re 15 or something.

0megaDaGod: I feel the same way in weird way! While I personally disagree about the final fight being lackluster (I enjoyed it) I kept feeling like Iron Man 3 had so much potential, and it didn't deliver on all it could've been. Still really liked it though. But I feel the same way as you.

I'm confused. Your editorial seems to suggest that you lacked foreknowledge of the character from the comics, but you were pissed when the character didn't turn out to be the one from the comics?

I love how we are all Mandarin fans after the movie.

I also love how we say Mandarin is a shit villain and character even with over 40 years of comic book history after he was done wrong in a movie.

This works both ways people.

There have literally been 2 stories featuring Mandarin in the last 10 years. One in Invincible Iron Man by Fraction, the other in Haunted by the Knaufs.
If Mandarin is so important, shouldn't he be around a little bit more?

Haunted involved Mandarin posing as a scientist working on Extremis, with evil intent. All ending up with a bare-chested kung fu match with Tony at its end.

That's pretty much exactly what we got in Iron Man 3.

Yeah I mean they could have just given guy pierce 10 rings and said he made them with AIM tech. that would have worked well.

@maninfinehat I was not pissed because he was not like in the comics, i was pissed because i wanted to see an epic villain. I just get pissed because everybody is like "screw you, fanboys" but the thing is, i didn't like the mandarin but i am not a fanboy.

My problem isn't the twist, it's that nothing is done with it and its only played for a joke. The twist had the potential to be mind blowing but nothing came out of it. I didn't like the movie but I can see it as something else... A comedy movie, a parody of the darker CBMs of today. It should have been sold as a parody but I think the marketing was genius it showed it as the very thing it was making fun of... A darker CBM. Watch it again and look at it as a parody, you'll at least respect the movie.

@Intruder And you sound like you need to spit Kevin Feige's dick out of your mouth. Or am I just being accurate? And awesome editorial man, I sort of agree.

Iron Man 3 was fantastic. I despised the movie at first watching, but now that I have it on digital and have watched it 4 more times, I absolutely love it. The more you watch it the more you understand why they did the things they did in the film.

I suggest you watch it again and analyze it. You're understand more of it and like it.

The problem with Iron Man 3 was not the Mandarin twist (I feel that was rather clever). The problem is that Marvel approached it with an air of uncertainty. At the time it was written and filmed, RDJ had not resigned to play Iron Man/Tony Stark again. The movie was used to wrap up as many loose ends as possible in case RDJ chose to not sign back up. Hence, the removal of his arc reactor and his self destruct of the armor.

I see what you're saying. But the entire movie Tony is being reminded that he is indeed a mechanic, and in all reality, doesn't really need the arc reactor. When first watching it, I was enraged that they did that at the end. But then I rewatched it and saw him create a hand-device from a box of scraps from that kid's shed so now I'm thinking he doesn't even need much to build a suit.
