The screenwriting team of Kieran and Michele Mulroney (the Mr. & Mrs. Smith TV pilot) turned in their first draft of a Justice League feature script that earned positive feedback from Warner Bros. execs, reports Variety.

"The Justice League of America has been a perennial favorite for generations of fans, and we believe their appeal to film audiences will be as strong and diverse as the characters themselves," Warners exec Jeff Robinov has stated.

The script follows a half-dozen of the best-known superheroes working together, including Batman and Superman.
So what does this mean for the future of the Batman and Superman franchises? Christopher Nolan’s next Batman pic "The Dark Knight" is currently in production to hit theaters in July 2008. Bryan Singer’s "Superman: The Man of Steel" is expected to play in 2009.

Initial reports claimed that Warners did not want to include Batman in the JLA movie. But current buzz holds that Warners has every intention of utilizing their most famous comic book properties for what could be an enormously expensive film. It also has been previously reported that both Christian Bale (Batman Begins) and Brandon Routh (Superman Returns) have contract options to star in a Superman vs. Batman movie.

The JLA made its first four-color appearance in February 1960. The original alien-fighting line-up consisted of Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Flash, Green Lantern, Aquaman and the Martian Manhunter.
