Fictional days detailing iconic characters that do not exist are probably not a staple at Comicbookmovie.com. But, to celebrate the ten successful years that still continues with Ant-Man and The Wasp, and of course, the celebration of Independence which is known as the 4th of July, this legend is extremely important to film and the spirit of the country.
In the Marvel Cinematic Universe, a young Brooklyn kid named Steve Rogers who had a small frame but a ton of heart wanted to join the United States Army, and after being washed out during enlistment many times, had agreed to train in basic training that would make him a candidate to become a Super Soldier.
After being injected with a serum through a process co-created by the father of Tony Stark, he was enhanced to the peak of perfection. He was soon a symbol of the United States and given a catchy name to advertise efforts like war bonds. After going against orders and rescuing countless P.O.W.s, including his best friend, he attacked many Hydra bases with his own team, The Howling Commandos, to find the Red Skull and retrieve the Tesseract.
After finding his nemesis, he crashed into the Arctic and was frozen for seventy years before he was thawed out by S.H.I.E.L.D. When he discovered he was alone in a modern world, except for a familiar face, his then elderly flame Peggy Carter, he was called to arms once again when the Earth was threatened by Thor’s brother Loki and fought alongside his new destiny, The Avengers. After thwarting the plan of world domination, he discovered his friend was alive, lost in the haze of his new persona, The Winter Soldier.
After defeating the government infection Hydra had become, the deadly plans of Ultron, and a fight where morality made him an enemy of the United States, he returned to fight the planet’s greatest threat to (half of) humanity, Thanos. After the Titan achieved his nihilistic goal for the sake of balance, Steve watched as his friend who he had risked his freedom for vanish into dust.
Where he goes next is a mystery, but it is certainly another chapter of great loss and destruction. But if his tenacity, skill, and abilities are any indication, he will be successful in his mission.
