Vision actor Paul Bettany has confirmed that his Marvel superhero will return to the MCU in some capacity, one day.
Of course, Marvel fans want to know how soon and in what form, but Bettany wasn't willing to divulge any additional details.
If you recall, Thanos ripped the Mind Stone from Vision's forehead after rewinding time in Avengers: Infinity War and S.W.O.R.D. took Vision's body into custody in WandaVision.
Meanwhile, Wanda Maximoff (Elizabeth Olsen) loses her grip on reality due to the loss of Vision and the fact that she wasn't able to give him a proper burial. She uses hex magic to create an alternate reality in Westview, New Jersey where she and Vision are married with two children.
S.W.O.R.D. uses the White Vision to try and free the residents of Westview from Wanda's hex, sending in the newly activated White Vision, who doesn't retain any memories of his previous life. However, when the White Vision and Hex Vision come into contact, the White Vision acquires the memories of his predecessor and flies off to process his new information.
Other than a few What If...? episodes, that's the last time MCU fans glimpsed Vision in the MCU, in the series finale of WandaVision, which aired on March 5, 2021.
While appearing at MegaCon 2024 in Orlando, Florida, Bettany was a special guest and during the fan Q&A portion of his panel, he was asked if Vision would ever return to the MCU.
Bettany replied [via The Direct], "[After long pause] Well, yeah... I mean, why wouldn't I? Yes, 100%."
Coming out of WandaVision, a Disney+ spinoff series starring the White Vision was announced but there's been no news since the initial announcement back in October 2022. The series was reportedly going to be titled Vision Quest, per Variety.
WandaVision head writer Jac Schaeffer was set to return as the head writer for the spinoff. However, all the attention and focus at Marvel is on another WandaVision, spinoff Agatha: Darkhold Diaries. There's been virtually no update on Vision Quest.
In fact, since Vision Quest's announcement back in October 2022, there have been several rumors which purport that Marvel has quietly cancelled the project, so in that context, Bettany's remarks become more intriguing. Disney CEO Bob Iger also stated last year that the company would be looking to reduce spending on Disney+, primarily by reducing its output of Marvel and Star Wars content.
Is Bettany referring to the Disney+ spinoff when he refers to Vision's MCU return or thinking of the next Avengers film, where Earth's Mightiest Heroes will have to seemingly deal with reality incursions (and possibly Kang the Conqueror)?
