Study Finds That Most People Choose To Watch Marvel Movies In Theaters And DC Films Later On At Home

Fascinatingly, a new study from Flixed reveals that the public is more likely to wait to watch DC Films at home than Marvel movies. It's no secret that Marvel Studios has sound considerably more success with the Marvel Cinematic Universe than Warner Bros.' DC Extended Universe, but this is still surprising given the popularity of the superhero movie genre.

The study delved into the public's streaming practices and how it impacts the way they consume media. It's said that 73% of the sample size are willing to wait to watch DC movies on their preferred streaming services rather than going to see them in theaters when they're released.

Marvel and Star Wars movies, however, are something 66% of people do decide to go and check out on the big screen, a sign, perhaps, that they're considered more must-see viewing. It was bad news for Warner Bros. all round, though, because 75% of people said that they're more likely to view future instalments of the Fantastic Beasts franchise at home rather than in theaters.

There's no denying that streaming services have had a huge affect on the way people watch their favourite movies, and that's why services like Disney+ and HBO Max are now looking to change things with big budget shows like Green Lantern and The Falcon and The Winter Soldier

What are your thoughts on these survey results?

Makes sense, Marvel has had regular success.
DC has just recently gotten out of their post Dark Knight trilogy slump.
Give it time, DC will get back up and give Marvel a run for their money.
After The Joker, they have a chance

If they ever want to try having a fully connected universe again, should bring in Bruce Timm or Alan Burnett or Paul Dini to be the Kevin Feige. They have the perfect model for how to do it

personally think the DCAU beats the mcu

@dracula - So insecure.

@dracula - again, I don't know why people like making unnecessary comparisons between animation and the MCU.

Spidey PS4.
Into The Spiderverse.
DCAU.

I'm not undermining the work put into those projects, but the things people try to prop them up for against the MCU, are probably the worst things to to compare across mediums.

@Kurne - Don't see the problem with comparing, its all in good fun.

@BabuFrik - All I was doing is giving a suggestion on how to do it and then giving my opinion. didn't say it was universally better, just saying I proffer it.

@dracula - During Phases 1 and 2, I would agree that the MCU lagged behind the DCAU, but the MCU has probably edged it out now. Still, I love the DCAU and wish desperately that WB had looked to it as a model.

Whether you need to literally bring some of those producers over, I'm not sure, but it couldn't hurt. Dini's writing has tended to disappoint me lately, but as a creative fulcrum of a megafranchise, they could do a lot worse.

@Spock0Clock - I guess it's debatable whether the DCAU beats phase 3. They really have hit their stride now. Wasn't that into Ant Man and The Wasp and Captain Marvel, but they werent bad. Although id say stuff like Starcrossed and the Cadmus arc are on par.

Speaking of Paul Dini, he did write a script for a live action Batman Beyond movie, if they keep going with stand alones, they should consider updating that script

@dracula - Awesome seeing Blue Devil in that pic. Wish he got more love in the series.

@dracula - The way I think of it is this: "If I was on a desert island, which franchise omnibus would I want with me?"

So, as Marvel continues to add more material, they've crept up and now I think surpassed the DCAU. As for which one is better, I think they're both full of such great stuff that I'm never going to definitively prefer one over the other (and thankfully, I don't have to). I do sincerely love them both.

@ElJefe - maybe one day he will, with the release of Batman and Harley Quinn and justice league vs fatal five, looks like the dcau is back at least for the occasional release. Mister terrific didn’t do much in the show and he is one of the main leaguers of the fatal five movie

@Spock0Clock - yeah I’d probably go with the mcu in that situation. Still proffer dcau, but mcu is great and with all the movies and shows you just have more material to last longer.

Having now sat down and done some rudimentary math...

The MCU to date is roughly 3000 minutes, while the DCAU is ~8000. But a lot of that is Static Shock (which I was too old for, I think), so it's still about 6500 minutes.

Is the MCU minute-for-minute 2.16 times more entertaining than the DCAU?... I think it probably is at this stage, but it's not an easy choice. Once the streaming series start padding out the MCU runtime, I'm pretty sure the MCU+ will start tipping those scales more decisively.
