THEM Star Luke James Isn't Interested In Kang But Has A Couple Of Surprising Marvel/DC Characters In Mind

Them: The Scare star Luke James has admitted he isn't interested in playing the MCU's Kang the Conqueror but comes up with a couple of other Marvel and DC characters he'd be keen on taking a crack at...

Jonathan Majors' time as the MCU's Kang the Conqueror reached an abrupt end when he was found guilty of two misdemeanour counts of assault and harassment following an altercation with his ex-girlfriend.

The actor was sentenced to a 52-week in-person domestic violence intervention program, but won't see any jail time. Despite that, the incident has essentially ended his Hollywood career and it's unclear whether there's a way back for Majors.

What we do know is he'd done as Kang, leaving fans to speculate about who will replace him in Avengers 5 and Avengers: Secret Wars

One popular suggestion is Them: The Scare star Luke James; however, he's not interested in playing the Conqueror.

"Marvel as a whole? Yes. Kang the Conqueror? No," the actor tells The Direct. "But I wouldn't not not take the meeting. There are so many brilliant characters, because I mean, it's so many characters. There are so many characters I would love a take at."

"I know it's going to throw people: Thrasher. As a kid, I loved Thrasher, especially when I was introduced to him via Spider-Man. I just thought that was really cool," James added, confirming he knows his comic books. "I skateboard. I thought it was really sick. They're working on ‘Blade,' Blade is awesome."

He also has a DC character in mind: Captain Atom.

"[Captain] Atom would be really cool in the DCU. I think Atom is such a unique character," he says. "They always kind of hint to him, show him in the cartoons and animation versions of all the movies that they've come up with DCU. But Atom is really powerful. I think that would be really [cool]."

"Right now, I see him hooked up to this reactor. They're draining him; they're using his power to create these radioactive beings that they're using. I forget what animation that was."

Thrasher, also known as Night Thrasher, was created by Tom DeFalco and Ron Frenz and first appeared in 1989's Thor #411. He's best known as the founder and leader of the superhero team the New Warriors.

As for Captain Atom, he first appeared in Space Adventures #33 in 1960 and was dreamed up by Joe Gill and artist/co-writer Steve Ditko for Charlton Comics. In the comics, he gains his powers through a military experiment that involves being fused with an alien metal and exposed to a nuclear explosion.

Would you like to see James in the Marvel or DC Universes?

I’m not familiar with his work at all but I could see him as Dwayne Taylor/Night Thrasher moreso then Kang or Captain Atom.

@TheVisionary25 - I tend to agree with your casting comments! Seem to have the same logic. Definitely appreciate his knowledge and thrasher would be cool. I would be into him joining something he can act so he’d fit

Never heard of Thrasher and seems like it'd be a c-list side character in an Avenger's movie. Because, of course, MARVEL has placed themselves in a corner because excitement for a solo outing is done. They need to resort to multiple characters showing up in each of their films now.

Now, Captain Atom? Heck yeah. Max tv series or film can flesh out how the man became what he is .... There's definitely a military background to explore so it'd be beyond interesting. Almost Dr. Manhattan kinda origin story.

@lazlodaytona - A solo thrasher project would be pointless, but he was a member of the New Warriors, who were a very interesting teenager / young adult team back in the day. Street level heroes at that time with some big power houses like Nova and Namorita. I find them far more engaging than the Young Avengers.

@mountainman - then thrasher should at least get a 6-episode, 30min. per episode series on Disney+
I mean, I don't give a sh1t, but if it makes marvel fans happy, they should do it.

@lazlodaytona - It would likely be just as popular as all the other projects from characters that shouldn’t be leading their own projects.

@mountainman - yeah. I kinda get that feeling.

@lazlodaytona - I don't mind them relying on multiple characters, but in how they use them. Most are kinda similar, so I'm missing those personality clashes like with Iron Man and Cap and Thor

@lazlodaytona - I miss the Marvel One-Shots. This character sounds like he would be prime for a one shot and then be inserted into another film later

Never heard of Luke James, but at 39 seems a little old for thrasher. Perhaps he could be the replacement to play Blade? Just don't know anything about the guys acting ability

Yeah man, one of my favourite villains in that run was Sphinx a classic Nova villain but underused, he appeared in some Fantastic Four comics as well.

I’m still waiting for an Icon movie. It’s low hanging fruit, with an original character that’s nearly on Superman’s level and could easily have an entire franchise built around him.

I think it's Flashpoint Paradox he's talking about. I'd love to see him playing Captain Atom, personally. I think he'd be good.

Captain Atom love, finally! Luke James is dope, glad to see his come up and success happening. Extremely talented dude and hope to see him in bigger projects. Could honestly see him as a hero or a villain given his range too. But he would be a PERFECT Brother Voodoo. In fact, I'm surprised that they haven't jumped on that opportunity to bring him to the big screen already
